So there pop up a lot of topics about all the new problems and bugs and ill-designed thingies in the current build. But on my first contact I found some nice details which got better, like pre-Ascension, which I want to mention to say thanks to the devs for caring.

 

1. The map colors

 

It's way more muted, which almost looks like the old Hawken. Excellent. We are getting part of the dirty not so polished feeling back.

 

2. Voice chat

 

Hey it's active again!

 

3. Some old sound FX had a comeback

 

Yeah, not the weapons sound but the environmental FX (hall) changed. Not that this is a huge thing but this was one aspect of the simplification of Ascension which "ruined" the experience.

 

I almost got the impression that they imported some of the older code into the new build.

I don't understand how you could appreciate the colors as they are now ... they're horrible in my eyes.

It depends on what graphics you're running the game on. All the maps look gorgous on ultra setting with DoF on. I'm going to play this game on this setting from here on out. Anything less will ruin the mech and griddy feel I've been looking for, nice god-rays btw. I too have noticed the ambience in certain areas so fantastic job on that. So far there's very little I hate about this patch, some things got nerfed, somethings have changed. Either way it's the same old hawken I remember just with added mechs.

Well, it's a matter of taste I would say. IMHO it's not the colors. It's more like they tamed down the gamma value in game.

no. the default gamma in config is 2.2
it was 2.2 even in old hawken, they don't touch it.

i love the old look too. glad its back. when the last update hit everything became super bright. sahara was like staring into the sun. you can always turn on depth of field if you want the brighter color scheme. i dont know if thats intentional but yea.

I always found it wierd how in dx11 games, having dof switched off makes everything look bright and washed out.

Nice appreciation thread. I think the new mechs add some much needed freshness. It would really be neat if new weapons (magnum pistol, charge cannon) got their own distinct sounds, though.
