Howdy folks. Some of you may remember me from "back in the day". A friend of mine (whom you may also remember by the name of Derf) recently re-downloaded Hawken and convinced me to take another look.

It made me smile to see my old mechs again, I must say. I'm a little confused about the new G2 mechs, though. The G2's I remember were strange variants of existing mechs. The twin-vulcan G2 assault. The fatty G2 raider. Now though there seems to be a G2 of every mech, and they seem to be almost the same. Almost the same, but with slightly better base stats. Is the G2 "mech" just an improvement that you can unlock for your "regular" mechs, or is it honestly just strictly (though slightly) better version of the regular mech? Is this some sort of strange vertical progression?

Note: I tried searching for G2, or G2 mechs, but "G2" is too small of a search term.

G2 used to be "The strange and hard to manage variant on the mech you know and love - meant for the player who was looking to challenge themselves by tackling the quirks of a mech that is harder to learn, but rewarding for those who put in the time."

They were awesome and tons of fun for veteran players looking for a challenge.

The new "G2" mechs are actually the same as the original mech, but with slight upgrades to all of the important stats.  Essentially, the new G2's are what you are striving for - they are a little better than the "G1" in every aspect.  If you don't use them, you are at a disadvantage.

So we kept our old mechs, but now they're all obsolete (including the founder's cupcake mech)?

CORRECT, SIR!

In all categories, they are either equal or slightly worse than their G2 counterparts.

Apparently, carbon fiber is a helluva drug.

In other news, I'll be sticking with my G1 mechs. Even though the G1 Technician now has a measly 300 HP and moves slower now, all my cosmetics are too great to give them up for a dull carbon fiber design.

Haven't purchased the original Grenadier yet, how is it different from the G2? Genuinely curious.

I'm not sure why they didn't make the G2 Assault a new version of the Assault and add a G2 label to that. That's what they did with the G2 Raider; they spun off the G2 Raider into the Marauder and made a G2 Marauder (the heavy one). They also made the G2 Raider(the medium one now).

The issue I have with g2's is the maurader wasn't properly buffed in the g2 form. Both versions of maurader are some of the slowest mechs in the game. Their weapons in xt form also have longer reload times than their normal counterparts. Part of the reasoning on this back when the maurader was known as the G2 Raider was because an alpha strike would almost kill an A class, the trade off being the mech is slow and reload is much longer than usual. So you get higher burst but with consequences. Seems fair.

When the new mechs were introduced they all have more armor and are generally faster. So the original concept of the GRR has now been essentially nerfed because it still has its orginal limitations but the burst damage it does isn't as high as it once was because armor across the board is higher.

I can look at stat differences, but it was implied that the Grenadier vs the G2 Grenadier had a difference like Assault vs G2 Assault.

I noticed with most/all of my G1 mechs that they had a 20% XP and $$ bonus to them, but my G2 mechs did not. Are G1 mechs supposed to have an economic incentive to play them vs. G2 mechs' combat incentive?

TBH, I'm absolutely okay with the old G2R becoming the Marauder (cool AF name too), and the old G2A becoming a mech of its own.  I'm still not okay with G2s being flat upgrades.

The OG gren had a Rev GL that bounced instead of insta popped. This made it more useful for corners and such.
The flight arc was also less flat, making it more useful for indirect fire.

The OG gren had a secondary GL and this could be remote detonated, which made it useful and sort of precise if you could climb the learning curve for aiming it. The flight arc matched the Rev GL pretty closely.

The G2 has 2 weirdly modified Rev GL, with a very flat trajectory and no remote detonation, and with a very slow rate of fire.
It's kind of like a nerfed TOW.

Any grenadier you buy now will be the new grenadier, it's to late to buy a legacy grenadier if you don't already have it.

Legacy Grenadier weapons:

Weap Prim - HEAT Cannon

Weap Prim - Point-D Vulcan

Weap Prim - Rotary Grenade

Weap Sec - Grenade Launcher

New Grenadier weapons:

Weap Prim - HEAT Cannon

Weap Prim - Point-D Vulcan

Weap Prim - Rotary Grenade(RevGL-L)

Weap Sec - Rotary Grenade(RevGL-R)

Likewise Legacy assault (you can still obtain one using the LOADEDASSAULT code on PC), not able on Consoles

Weap Prim - Assault Rifle

Weap Prim - Point-D Vulcan

Weap Prim - SMC

Weap Sec - TOW Rocket

New assault

Weap Prim - Assault Rifle

Weap Prim - SMC

Weap Prim - Point-D Vulcan XT Left

Weap Sec - Point-D Vulcan XT Right

It's not the mech, with those close stat differences, it's the pilot. G2s are pointless with such a small difference in stats. With a bigger difference it would be pointless to have G1s in the first place.  Makes more sense to keep just one class of each type of mech and bring back the skill tree of upgrading your mech overtime to reach G2 levels of performance or higher. Provides incentive for players to actually dedicate some time to the game and feel like they are making a difference when putting the hours in. Get rid of the G2 mechs and focus more time on Level Design and developing different game modes for the players.

several days ago we can see how G2 brawler got  10 HP difference between G1 and G2, and it was normal. where is the problem in G2 maradur?

Perhaps a bit of both but maurader walking speed one of the slowest if not thee slowest in game. You also want to not boost as much as possible which compounds the issue. I feel uniquely qualified to know these from experience.

yes, he is slowest. but it is not a prob.
to be honest, just right now the maradeur unplayable for me because korsair-xt deal 0 damage very often, if you hit enemy in face. it is game bug or servers, i don't know, but this always make me rage. anyway, brawler always be more interesting for me, but imo, maradeur in current state better than flak-brawler.

Maurader is boss hoss son. You see your enemies driven before you and hear inside the cockpit the lamenations of their women.

And that slow walking speed is a very big deal. It makes the mech almost unplayable except for the unusually skilled and best of looking pilots.

I think you mean lamentations, good sir.
And quit driving shotguns up my bunghole as I try to reassemble my mates, won't you?

You don't actually need to spend real cash for G2 mechs. You unlock them by mastering your G1 and can buy them with Hawken credits.

G2 Gee Whiz; not much to choose from, as the "upgrades" are insignificant in almost every instance. Bots are more interesting than the new mechs. Before this new format, I had never seen a bot or a human make a perfect, backwards, three-level jump up, shooting all the time, and not missing with a single projectile - that's something worth experiencing again and again - oh wait, that IS what happens over and over! I think the work they put into the bots so far is pretty impressive; now that work needs to fix the crippling synch-freezes, pay the electric bill on the first floor of Highways, fix the porous walls in facilities, and return CHAT to the garage!

As your MMR increases, bots get skills added so that they aren't made of paper.

They wallhack and autoaim all over. It will teach you how to use cover and corner poke.

Embrace it and learn from it.

I like it when you dominate one and for the remainder of the game they hunt you... Bots get butthurt too :P

... "Stupid Bots"
