No, this looks awesome! I imagine some kind of area bonus for allied mechs because he is too slow to keep up with the team so I think he will be designed to be the "leader" of the team. Where he goes, the allied mechs go too for the boni.
But I see beginners running in the enemy team in turret mode....
However, if THIS will be implemented, I will make you cookies and send them over the world for you (the whole team).

Could have an auto cannon type weapon that fires in bursts or some sort of mini grande gun that fires like a normal pistol but the bullets bounce around and explode. Has a 4 round clip.
When the mech is in turret mode has a possible small aoe heal, or regeneration, very minor maybe like 3-4 armor every 5 seconds. Might be fun to mess around with something like that.
OR Instead of large metal shields this mech could generate a force field in turret mode much like the barrier item. If the barrier is broken the mech gets a speed boost. Or due to the fact that the mech does not have large metal shields could move faster regardless. just more thoughts on how the system could work.
Stephen please forgive the crude sketch over but just wanted to show the idea.
