I really enjoy playing the vangaurd. I like the rocketeer too, but the vangaurd is my favorite. Up close and personal, its definitly a contender. I cant go into internal setups, because I am running mine without any internals right now.

If by "all-around mech", you mean "fewest weaknesses", definitely the assault. It may have the same weapons and ability as the recruit, but the stats are considerably better.  It's decent at everything except long-range combat, and that's because long-range is a very special niche in this game.

Of course the answer was going to be a B-class though, I mean, the A's and C's are too specialized to be an all around anything.

*EDIT* Actually, as MechCraft mentioned, so are most of the B's.  So yeah, assault is pretty much the quintessential well-rounded mech.

Assault, no question.

While mechs like the Zerker and Scout can be exceptionally powerful in the right hands, the Assault's combination of strengths make it ideal in almost any team setup. Its durable chassis, solid mobility, and extremely versatile weapon loadouts mean it can hold its own in a huge array of combat scenarios while contributing significantly to your team's defensive integrity and offensive momentum.

The problem with aggressive A-class mechs (like the Zerker/Scout) lies in their very small health pools - they cannot tank any significant amount of damage and thus rely on their immense skirmishing power to succeed. They work great in 1v1's and isolated engagements but can struggle in larger fights if they have no beefy allies to push with. If your team already has a lot of squishies, or your team's frontline is collapsing frequently, an aggressive A class can actually be a terrible pick since it will not be able to sustain a defensive line long enough for your team to rally and regroup.

The problem with heavies lies in their sheer lack of mobility - they cannot chase fleeing targets very well and they are incredibly easy to hit. They're great for holding the line or laying down heavy suppression, but it's always extremely obvious when and where they're trying to push. If your team lacks the mobility to deny enemy disengages and/or fails to rally around you, then a heavy will struggle tremendously since it becomes little more that a massive, sluggish bulls-eye.

Other B's have more significant specialization, which also means they have more noticeable weaknesses. The Bruiser, for example, is fantastic for medium range suppression but struggles against in-your-face A-classes and long range snipers. The SS has devastating long range burst but mediocre sustained damage, which limits its effectiveness against larger groups of enemies. The Assault, however, strikes a good equilibrium between solid tankiness, decent mobility, reliable poke, and high DPS - making it this game's jack-of-all-trades. If you're looking for sheer versatility, then the Assault's your mech.

Good hunting.

Voted CR-T.

Soon realized the Assault is just a better version of the CR-T.

Not only is it all around, it's now VERY powerful with SMC, just land the tow on the enemy once, and then keep track of him with the primary for like 2 secs for A class, another tow and another 2 secs for B class, and yet another tow and another 2 secs for C class. That's how to play Assault basically.

And if you miss shots, keep trying, you have a lot of health compared to A class and you have a powerful ability that allows you to shoot until you get bored of it.

It's easy and strong ... shoot and laugh ... that's assault ...

I definitely like the Coolant and extra health in large scale fights, also very cheap (getting one myself soon).

Slap on a Replenisher and you have near Incinerator levels of nonstop fire.

Running directly to/from sniper fire means you'll die tired. Taking cover gives (Ke-)Sabot time to reload.

I am going to be werid, I actully have a few picks. first, the vanguard, while it does not have a tow, the gernade is still very strong for most engagements and the smc is very strong anyway, the vanguard also is very fast for being a c class. it can win duels and support a team as well as an assult, but with more hp, it works better with a tech.
this incinerator is basically an assault with a faster firing tow like fireballs that has an extra effect and wont ever need to stop shooting. its very strong in almost all forms of major play, such as burst damage like a infiltrator or predator. (when using the papa)  or long sustained fire that eats away at mechs (bby) its also much faster then most people realize.
lastly, I would actully say the reaper, very good all around sustained damage wiht veyr good dodge and the ability to out range harder mechs and engage groups well, it works with most teams and most maps even if you dont think it would be as good as it is.

also, no one forget the brawler with the sa hawkens, it has everything, self heal, range dps, tow, and lots of hp. also pair it with a tech and watch the other team bounce off of it all day long :3 anyway, these are just my ideas on mechs that are perfectly aliened to what the assault does, but can do it as well in there own way which is just a good. remember, there are more then one ways to get the job done even in the same way.

I guess that means all mechs are female. XD

On topic:

I'd say it's either CRT or Assault.  Personally, it's the CRT since it does so well in most situations.

I have to say mine is the reaper.

I love its abilities as a frontline skirmisher (despite it being classified as a sniper) the prescision overdrive, while useful at a distance, is devastating up close with the KE-Sabot paired with the Hawkins-RPR, and those two weapons have an amazing DPS. Along with its weapons its also reasonably fast, and has enough armor to allow it to be useful in 1v1. Other people also don't expect you to be able to kill them in the reaper either, which gives you an element of suprise (if you are playing up front, that is).

My reaper build:

Weapon: Hawkins-RPR
Internals: shock coil, basic deflectors, armor fusor, basic reconstructor, basic extractor
items: Radar Scrambler MK-II, Sheild MK-II

My best all round mech has to be my PREDATOR.
All A classes are all abolished with my breacher.
It's decent against most B classes, but Raider.
C classes give me a hard time if in turret mode.

wow, what an insightful thread!  I'd always considered the Assault as just "the recruit with better cosmetics" and a quick way of changing how you look, rather than being an actual improvement.  Clearly I need to purchase the Assault... like, yesterday.
