No you don't.

Take it from someone who's desktop just died on him and is now forced to play on his g/f's laptop.

Despite the fact that this laptop is 2-3 years newer then my old dinosaur of a desktop, has better specs in every conceivable way (Processor,GPU,Ram,etc..), and that it's a very expensive gaming laptop (she didn't buy it to game on, she does graphic design), it still doesn't perform as well as my desktop did for two reasons, the first being; you can't overclock most laptop graphics cards, my desktop GPU overclocking was giving me a 30-40% improvement in performance added with the ability to manually control fan speed, another thing lap tops can't do...which brings me to my next point; Cooling, heat is one of the primary factors in processing performance...laptops just can't get rid of it due to low powered mini fans and a lack of space inside.

Long story short, when looking at laptop specs...you're only going to be getting about 75% of what you'd get out of a desktop with the exact same specs due to cooling issues, overclocking, power supply/consumption, and many other things.

I thought I'd be living the high life with a fancy new GPU in a shiny, sleek, portable case.

Instead I am barely getting enough frames to play and dealing with a red hot slab of plastic and metal on my lap.

Would people stop acting like I haven't done research (and this is not the place to convince me that laptops are a bad idea) Though I have to say you're experience kind of reflects one of my worst fears. I'll probably PM you in a couple of hours if you don't mind

Anyways, where I'm going, I would use the computer i used to play this game last year, except the GPU is going and I can't play ANY games (even 2d indie games) without the frames dropping to about 10-15 FPS. It won't even connect to a 720p TV without a framerate drop. It was never this bad before

So alas, I will have to settle for watching your videos. Can one of you record it and put it on youtube, Twitch and I do not agree... ever...

Nobody implied you hadn't done research, just sharing a personal experience with you.

I realize tone can be hard to discern through text, but I don't see where anything I typed could have been taken as antagonistic_ (I think it's the name, people see "HatesYourFace" and they just assume I be hatin' lol)

Also, like I summed up at then end, this was a realization I only came to recently...I expected the laptop to outperform the desktop simply on account of its numerically superior specs, I was wrong. Sorry if it seemed like I was questioning your computer know-how, wasn't my intent.
