UPDATED 1/11: This is pretty much out-paced by nepa's config so don't bother with mine. In-game presets are still possible if this is something you want to do. Feel free to ask here or in nepa's thread.

 

Let's keep this brief. Players need access to these kinds of graphics options IN-GAME. Fact: There are players who turn away from Hawken because it's too much for their computer.

 

Plastic Textures: Ultra is roughly the same as vanilla Textures: Ultra @ 128x128, then High 32x32, Medium 8x8, and Low 1x1 (classic plastic). The Graphics presets may not work yet, so switching out from Low to something else may produce undesired results, like psychedelic Hawken. Custom Graphics is still fine, however.

 

Each spoiler below contains a screenshot and another spoiler showing the settings used. For plastic hawken use the instructions below for the plastic config.

UPDATED 8/18: Adjusted texture presets, fixed some crashes.

 

DOWNLOAD (v0.5):

Plastic HawkenSystemSettings with texture presets!

 

... that's it. Save it somewhere so you have a backup. Name it anything you want. That's freedom, right there. MURICA

 

Next, find HawkenSystemSettings.ini. You can open up explorer and copy+paste something like this in

C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My Games\Hawken\HawkenGame\Config

Or you can open the Start menu and search for it. I don't care. Just get to HawkenSystemSettings.ini.

 

Now delete everything in HawkenSystemSettings.ini and replace it with everything in the plastic config. Save it. Boom. You're done. Close this tab and play some herken.

For more performance tweaks, try out Nepa's  hawken config maximum fps . As always, backup your configs. You may lose sensitivity and keybind settings.

Plastic hawken looks sick and I'd love to play like that. Only thing is, from watching your videos, it looks like mechs are way less visible from a distance, and things like explosions and fire looked 100 times more obtrusive.

 

I guess "dark" hawken is a good middle ground for frame rates and visibility.

Yarp. I forgot to mention, but restarting Hawken is also necessary and should be applied frequently.

That's probably just how cruddy my stream looks, but plastic hawken is by far the most clarity. Yeah, square explosions but they're completely transparent.

You combine this with a lower resolution, obs recording @ 360p or less + single digit fps capture, and you are actually getting better in game

fps than just straight up playing Hawken.

I just reinstalled HAWKEN to get it on my SSD, and found some interesting things;

There's no HawkenSystemSettings anymore, but instead there's DefaultSystemSettings and BaseSystemSettings.

DefaultSystemSettings is at: This PC/Local Disk(C:)/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Hawken/HawkenGame/Config.

BaseSystemSettings is at: This PC/Local Disk(C:)/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Hawken/Engine/Config.

 

There's some stuff about Android, iPhones, iPads and Flash in the latter - also explanations next to certain things.

Since it's slightly different from the original HawkenSystemSettings, I'm not sure how to exactly change it.

 

EDIT: Predobear just told me to look at the old location for the HawkenSystemSettings after having launched HAWKEN once, and it's there.

Neeevermind..

 

EDITEDIT: I now have 40 FPS in intense combat with the Plastic settings, this is the highest I've ever had.

I'm loving it, thanks for sharing.

Adjust your resolution to fit, apply, and restart hawken. So long as you don't touch the texture presets everything should stay plastic.

If that advice doesn't even apply, post a screenshot.

Anyone with even a minor background in competitive AFPS.

 

And even though these settings are about performance mostly, I do find something highly pleasing about the smooth clarity of high picmip settings. Granted, it's not as nice in hawken as it is in most other games, due to very little variation in the color palette.

Only commands and ini. settings approved by TPG League may be used in the game console or config files. These include modified camera and performance .ini's.

Anyone can use them and some have to.

That's a weird one. Are you restarting Hawken between each change? To start, I'd see if you can delete HawkenSystemSettings.ini and then run Hawken again to create a fresh ini for you. If that brings GUI scaling back, there must be a setting in the ini you can use to control it.

Bump. New texture presets. Graphics presets aren't working yet, stick to low and/or use custom settings. If Hawken crashes or won't start, just delete all your Hawken config and restart for new ones then copy in plastic again.

Bump, adjusted texture presets for better performance scaling. Going up one level (low->med.->high->ultra) costs me about 10 fps.

Got a question about plastic hawken. If regular hawken works on my laptop but makes it heat up pretty hard to the point I can't play too much of it at a time even on the low settings, will plastic hawken make that better?

Yes, I would recommend starting at the default low settings and trying it out before switching to to Med+.

Also double check that your performance/fan settings are max.
