I have just recently started to play Hawken, but I quickly noticed that there isn't currently a 1v1 sparring mode. I think it would be nice thing to implement and it would give players the ability to practice against either an AI mech or human opponent. I'm 99% sure this doesn't exist in the game at the time I'm writing this, but if it does, than this is just me being stupid.

There are the 1v1 Fight Club arena maps that allow players to duel other players, but I'm not sure if they're publicly available for everyone. If not they should be.
fairly sure they are. dropped in to spectate two gents 1v1ing in one this morning

I honestly have no idea how to get in to or spectate these 1v1 Fight Club servers. I'm sure there are instructions on the forums... but nothing in-game that would lead one there.

Yeah like Rainbow Sheep said, this idea came from my experience with tf2. There isn't an official 1v1 mode in tf2, but there are tons of community servers running it. Community servers are probably not going to be implemented with the current infrastructure of Hawken, so it would be nice to see an official mode.

In my opinion, a newcomer for that purpose of training modes are great battles against bots (they are already in the game).

it will be great if devs lead this FightClub map to 100%, i mean, added textures, and a little reworked to real 1vs1 duel-map (without extra spectators) because no reason sit like a spectator if you want play in duel with one people.
and added "duel mode" in menu, where you can press "play" and matchmaking find you a opponnent with +/- 150-200 mmr

I agree on polishing it up, but keep the spectator area! Being able to watch 1v1's is great. I also like to do a round robin type thing with duels, in which case it's easiest to have people waiting their turn in the spectator area

Also, some clowns like to Goomba stomp in the upper decks.

its a waste of time but we just do it for fun
most of time it is impossible to do it on EU server where we have more players. Everytime someone connect to you and start attack you (or do something else things)
so, it is working good only with password.
about "waste of time". 1 vs 1 it is not waste of time. but being a spectator - waste of time. this is why i think it should be only for two players.
and it should working automatically. i mean, game spawn you, 3, 2, 1, fight! when you die, spawn you again to next round and recharge items/clear battlefield. it should be a real duel mode, without stupid stuff.

Duel mode is not radical. Its a staple of the FPS genre that is missing from this game.
Whats needed are:
Purpose built 1v1 maps.
Some kind of game mechanic that prevents a cold war happening in the mech selection screen.
Robust spectator mode.
Maybe a bracket tournament mode, where your randomly pitted against the other players until there is a grand champion.

The only issue I see coming up with making the current test arena available as a unlocked public server is dbags entering the fighting zone during a duel. The only way that people understand what to do is if someone else is in the server with them to explain.
Code the portals to only allow 2 mechs in the arena at any given time. Otherwise, they are disabled.

Here is one idea, Everytime someone scores a kill instantly reset the stage until both Mechs signal ready and the next round of the duel starts. And while I am at it, what if everytime you get killed you allready have a new mech queued to spawn. Spawn limit and mutators should probably be set on the server host end.
So in regular 1v1 mode you select whatever mech you want to each round. And how many different mechs you agree on, You Select mechs to enter the duel with before you ready up in lobby. e.g. "4v4 Mechs, kill count 20, 2 minute rounds." or "Free choice, best of 10, no time.".
Some ideas for spawn mutators.
All random - On or off :Every time you spawn in a random mech from your garage. Or from a set of mechs Selected by the players
Elimination - On or off (Every mech only spawn once.): Set mech count, and the last man standing wins.
Sudden Death - On or off. To avoid draw. "If enabled with elimination: If the player that gets reduced to his or her last mech first has a higher total score then the opponent, you enter Sudden Death", regardless of the mechs left in play, the match ends here.
Blind mode - On or off. If this is turned On you pick at the beginning of each round. Off; at the end of each round.
Winner stays - After each reset the scoring player respawns in the same mech. If unchecked both players pick and spawn in a new mech each round.
