So we all know about smurfs, and I find it confusing to keep track of all of them. So, here's I'm suggesting a collection of aal users and their smuf accounts, to keep everything nice and public.

As an afterthought/edit, I don't disclose the names of any of my active smurf accounts, as that would break the whole reason I use them. I like my solitude from time to time. Having people know who I am every game gets tiring. It's not unappreciated, it's just I don't have the energy to engage in conversation all the time. Then there's also the fact that when I play on my main account, ticklemyiguana, I feel a pressure to do as well as I did at my peak.

 

THIS WAY NO ONE GETS THE SATISFACTION OF KILLING TICKLEMYIGUANA.

I use smurfs to play with irl friends and get some specific mech practice. I have introduced hawken to a few friends and had to make a new account to be able to play and educate them

I have every mechs in my main and I use it for cosmetics and KDR practice or other events, BTW I don't find it useful for practice because I'm lazy and I don't want to sort the mechs I own.

 

psycho_mom >40 hours is a techzerker account, for fun and for the purpose of achieving high MMR without skill and trying to have a K/D > 1 with a tech

 

monsterofmyown > 100 hours, is for practice, basic purpose was to watch the K/D I can achieve past ~2k kills with different Mech

 

grin_n_tonic > 20 hours, is for reaper practice, currently a "smurf" because I still haven't reached lvl 30 (the mmr is consistent with my actual lack of skill with the reaper)

• That don't want to be recognized in-game, and/or
• Who want to "chill out" or practice without putting the MMR of their primary account at risk

Think of the above motives as Pokemon. Choose a motive from above and then when you stumble across a thread that mentions smurfs, throw it into the fray and yell at people who disagree!

A few of those motives could be considered benign depending on where you stand on the matter. If you've had your day ruined by smurfs too many times then you may think all motives for smurfing are naughty. On the other hand, if you made a smurf because you care about the MMR on your primary, and you know that losing one bad match can wipe out weeks of effort, then you may think that smurfing is justified in certain cases. I recommend that you don't think of the topic as being black and white.

 

I should also point out that there was another large factor back in the day when matchmaker made it very difficult for high MMR players to find a match. They eventually made smurfs so they could join matches with lower MMR averages. Many opinions have been exchanged on the matter.

OK here goes. First of all I've ALWAYS had alts in every single game I have ever played online and off. Including solo player games. For me the JOURNEY is the game, not the end of it. Getting someplace is just as interesting as the end. I hate people who run 4k mph to the end of the game and then whine there is nothing to do. ALL my alts are in the same MMR range well because I'M THE SAME PERSON PLAYING IT. They average 1600 - 1700 MMR

I only made an alt account recently so I could use it for when new players came on, and I can mess about and not worry about killing my main MMR.

Haven't used it much, cos theres no new pilots.
