HAWKEN FILMS

 

HAWKEN Films is a community project based around creating short promotional videos based around the mechs in the game.

 

The goal is to boost the game’s popularity, and possibly help new players.

The idea is to release a bunch of trailers on various mechs first and then some on the various maps and then eventually leading up to a possibly full FEATURE LENGTH MOVIE! I do realise that there have been rumours and even tiny waves of another movie, but we want to make ours as a community.

 

 

 

Here is what we are thinking.

-Mechs

We will use the ingame history and the lore to create these trailers. For eg, the lore of the Incinerator is as follows.

 

After years of research and development, the Malk model was the product of the covert Project Phoenix. With cutting edge thermal technology, this mech was engineered to absorb and store heat from surrounding sources, and transform that heat into offensive power. First seen in action in the Battle for Bunker 159, surviving mech pilot Jonas Obregon described witnessing the premier Incinerators, "I saw the beasts born from the ice. Then there was fire, only fire and destruction."

 

So we re enact the Battle for Bunker 159 at the Bunker Map  . Then just as soon as they thought that all was lost   , the defending team calls out to the scientific department to release Project Phoenix as a desperate measure. Then from the centre of the map (that structure) rises the INCINERATOR  ! It does not seem to overheat and burns its foes to the ground. Then we could show a scene where a pilot says that quote. 

METHOD

We were thinking of getting into a party and going to a map to explore. With source filmmaker or similar tools, extra scenes can be added. The script, direction and audio (dialogues and music plus special effects) will be contributed by the community. A youtube channel can be created or the devs can take up these videos and put them in the official channel if they are good enough. Those who want to be in that party can contact us.

Experts in editing, writing and directing are needed. 

 

 

 

The feature film will be made later depending on the success of these trailers.

I was thinking about trying to put together a community frag movie sometime, but this is a better idea. I can record if needed, but I run HAWKEN on a laptop with minimum settings so someone with a bulkier computer would be more suited to it. Spectator mode needs to be implemented soon so recording cinematics becomes easier <3

I'm not an expert in anything, but if you ever need a volunteer actor I'm available on Fridays and Saturdays (Preferred, but not limited to those days).

Oh yeah, I think a spectator mode already exists, but it's only accessible through a command that few know.

Yeah, if we can accomplish this and post 'em up on different websites and forums (we'll need the community's collective help to reach far and wide) we could boost interest signifigantly.

Also, many have told me my voice is quite good for documentary's and commentary and have made me read quotes and entire documentary scripts because of it. I don't know if you would want it, but I also offer my voice.

Anyway. Since we are doing trailers first, I think it would be best to choose which mechs we should go with first.

There is an awesome trailer on Predator already.




We could still make our own though.

Do you think that these trailers should be educational or just a video that shows the havoc these aces can wreck? Which mechs should be up first?

I like the idea oh videos showing the mechs wrecking havoc, similar to a frag movie. However make it much more cinematic and include the backstory of the mech in some way.

As for the idea, this sounds like a neat project.  I wish you all luck with it, make something really cool.

Okie dokie. I also quite frankly agree with Assault.
The idea of a steam group is quite fascinating. I don't have enough privileges to do that. Anyway, those who would like to take it up can do so.

SoldierHobbess 11 and Tweezix had also and are still enthusiastic about this idea. They had contributed to the idea when it was in its infancy. SoldierHobbess11 got a new high end rig. So recording and a bit of basic editing can be done there itself. I quite forgot to mention them earlier. My bad. Sorry.


Add us and also those who are enthusiastic to that group please.
I also like the idea of giving a personality to the mechs. Like scouts are generally irritating mosquitoes you just can't kill.

Awesome! Unfortunately, although my computer is above-average, it is still not quite there for recording HD shots in HAWKEN. HOWEVER (and this is something I've wanted to try for a while now) I think I am going to install a small copy of Linux on a new partition, get HAWKEN running there, and use some recording software that is Linux-based (for some reason it works much more smoothly than most Windows software I've tried). I'll let you guys know how it goes (cinematic shots are something I love to do, so this would be a dream come true if it works).

I have an idea:  For the C-classes who still have turret mode, we could see them all rush in a line in it for some riot control with reapers/sharpshooters in the back following on the map Prosk!  We could have INN post some news about corporations trying to suppress riots made due to scrip losing value and ration shortages!  I'm not sure, but it's an idea.

We should probably get around to listing the mechs + parts we have to use. (ex. say we want to have two G2 Raiders in a scene, or we want to showcase an Assault with a shark chassis, we need to make sure we're are able to supply said mechs/parts)
