I had an idea a while ago to make the blade a secondary weapon on a completely new mech, with a short-ranged gun as the primary, or even some sort of blockade generator with high heat generation as an option for the primary, giving the mech a sort of sword and shield look. My idea for the blade was that it would be large and on a slightly longer arm, sort of like a lance, thrusting forward to stab at mechs nearby. As an option for the weapon utility, The blade could heat up, increasing the damage of the weapon, but at the same time using up fuel. Beause I was pretty much making a whole mech, I even came up with a special ability that would increase walking and boosting speeds for a short duration, which as far as I know has not been claimed by any mech yet. I do not know if this idea would be too overpowered for the game, or whether it is balanced with current mechs.

i dont think melee weapons will be implemented, they just dont seem hawken-ish_

the only melee weapon i can imagine for a hwken mech is a ripper from dead space

maybe disk-launcher from original U3, first mode - just get more damage, second mode - throw disc that bounces off the walls, objects and any mechs. but this is not melee :P

if the disc is flying in front of you, i think its melee...

I am gone until they revert the frame things they did when ascension came out and fix all the balance issues which they seem unable to fix since forever(LoL i might as well quit because this will not happen... not even in my dreams) . Since invasion came out SHT really hit the fan for me because lag, framerate drops. I am temporarily retired... I just haunt the forums now.

I think the best type of melee weapon would be collision between mechs that cause damage. Simply thrust full-speed into the enemy to knock them around and cause damage- most pit style. Really easy to implement, and can actually be used.

Ilove the idea. just the thought of a light mech with no guns just dashing up to a heavy and decimate it with lift ands right  blades. or a heavy with eng or ar with battle ax. The art team is great with this ham and would have no problem fitting it in. only sown side is that could come off as a rip off from almost every mech movie, show,, and game

Did anyone else play Phantom Crash/S.L.A.I._

Melee weapons were OP, but they were insanely fun and took a ton of skill to use. I'd love to see a "Carro," aka Berzerker running around with a chainsaw or an electric katana.

Yup. Just like the Pile Driver in Armored Core.
Some type of big crazy chainsaw thingy and energy blades would be cool, too.
They would have to do a LOT of dmg, considering the range would be so close to zero.

I don't like the idea of going into combat with a melee weapon strapped to my mech as you only have two weapon slots. On the other hand being able to kick or slam into other mechs would be too enjoyable. There are hundreds of times when EMPed or overheated that a nice mech slam to buy time would turn the tide or at least allow me to go out swinging. It also to me fits the Hawken down and dirt feel to crudely power slam as a melee attack. I also feel there would be negative impacts on both sides for slamming into one another which would reserve the melee for emergency uses when there are no other options.

A saw or flamethrower would be semi ok, but then the mechs walking/running speed would definitely have to go down because I will not stand for ninja mechs. This is supposed to be a mech game get your medieval fantasy's out of here.

Yes, it's a nice idea. Adds an essential backup option to overheating which can induce rage for some players >_>  Lol seriously that intense fire fight and enemy is almost dead then boom over heat. Or when you're soloing thre mechs and all are almost dead, overheat, etc etc.

Get up close and melee them.

Since it's melee it keeps things balance since, well it's melee.

Mechs like Techs can not be so vulnerable now, a bit. Seen some techs complaining tonight bout being too weak and easily targeted. Yes depends on the player that makes the tech/mech. Just saying.

Melee would be a lovely addition to the game. Would love to see mechs shredding each other apart with melee  =D
