The shield being abused is when your team mate puts a shield on you. You can move around while taking damage and laugh as they heat up shooting you or run until the shield is gone.

UPDATE: In final testing, the team has discovered that the build we were aiming to ship tomorrow has a new bug that occasionally boots players upon map rotation. As a result, we're going to postpone shipping the Facility Update until we resolve the bug. The new drop date is likely this Thursday but may take a little bit longer. We'll be sure to keep you updated!

Working as intended, actually. The Shield is designed to be deployed this way.

@FussyBadger Then I guess We'll see what it's like on my Bruiser, CR-T, Tech, and Raider. Mid fight healing has always been unreliable in the first place. Standing still means death.
The shield was being used properly before, but it was just an inferior item to Repair Charges.
Now it's limited invulnerability, which is pretty Goddamn useful, which is why Gooky is probably saying it's being abused.

Also, mid-fight healing was only unpredictable previously if you didn't know where or when to drop your charges. As long as you didn't drop them out of cover, or let yourself get to 1-shot health, you'd were fine.

Pre-tech patch, I cursed the man who threw a shield on me and made me a walking TOW beacon. Now, I thank the man who throws one on me. There was little point to it since TOW and other burst damage got through pretty easily. Only use I got out of my shield was to cover my ass while I escaped for dear life or in 1v1 use it to trick some poor bastard into it while I unleash a TOW on a target who just got a whole lot easier to hit.

Fair point. I used to drop charges on my teams side of the AA and play peek-a-boo, as I shot TOW's in.

Because it would be FAR better than the repair charge.. it would be an instant "heal" in the sense it would increase your effective hp instantly instead of healing you for less over time, like the repair charge.

If my memory serves me correctly..

Repair Charge = 225 health
New Shield = 350 health

Wouldn't be balanced sadly. Even though I'd love to be able to put it on myself.

I think the shield was in a good place when it only stopped bullet projectiles. With my tech i shielded a grenadier walked through 3 people hit my green beam then walked through another 2 ended the fight with the both of us at full health.
Really felt op, because they all grouped as a team, it wasn't kill 1 move on, it was 2v3 then 2v2 in under a min.

Green beam is too much so is shield blocking explosive damage.

So it's okay to be deployed shield on you by a team mate and be invincible to 350 damage_ This can be abused in competitive/pub matches too where each of you can put a shield on each other and rush the enemy guarded Silo or AA with 350 damage worth of protection. And they are increasing armour for mechs to increase kill time.

I am all fine with it being deployed on the ground and you have to be inside the shield to protect yourself but not deployed on a mech.

longer TTK means i'd like to be a quiter if i autobalanced to a one less ppl team.

before the tech patch, at least i can burst down one enemy to make it even. now one more enemy means i have to deliver maybe 1000 more damage to clean one wave. what if the one more guy is a turret mode brawler or tech_ if i am lucky enough to defend the first wave, i won't have enough time to repair and get ready for another wave. after all my team mates die, we re-spawn in different place and straight jump into the battle, we can never win and the game is already over before time is up.

oh yeah, now i can imagine how devs want this game to be. personal skill is useless. more ppl win a game or campers win the game

The fact that there will be more armor for mechs might even out the technician, actually. It could actually promote heat management by techs since they will have to do more damage. When they overheat, they are going to suffer like any other overheated mech.

The part about adjusting the size of callsigns and ability logos really just makes me want to be able to adjust that stuff myself.  I would pay money (<< see that devs_) to install a module on my mech that allowed me to do some customized tweaking of my HUD.  For instance, I really want to change the color of the ability logo for Technicians, so I can pick them out more easily during a firefight.  No matter how big that logo is, it will still be hard to pick out from a crowd if it's the same color and size.  Hawken has a futuristic setting, so I would imagine HUD tweaking would fit into the lore just fine...

Since the patch is delayed anyway, how about you guys sneak a little something in there to limit the amount of Sharpshooters in a game _
Every time any map that can remotely be used by camping snipers comes by, thanks to the test drive for that #&%*#^@* thing, everyone decides to go sharpshooter.
I've been in at least 4 games today where the amount of no skill morons playing that thing was staggering.
And now that you guys are buffing all Mechs' health, i suppose the SS will be the damn near undisputed king of the hill, especially when there's 3 or more in each fuzzing team, mucking up the game for everyone else.

This nonsense has got to fuzzing stop.
