Q: I have question so and so, or some idea or some bug ... etc
A: Use the forum search function FIRST, most likely it has been asked, discussed or polled before
Q: I'm having issue so and so with the game
A: Checklist of things to do:
- Repair install (cog button in the launcher)
- Re-install
- Search forums
- If its not on the forums, make a post or even better file a support ticket
Q: My password doesn't work ingame or in the launcher. Why_ and how do i fix it_
A: Sometimes special characters may muck up passwords. Login to the playhawen.com website and reset your password to something that doesn't have special characters (but make sure its a strong password) and try again with the new password. Otherwise contact Support. Note, accepted special characters: @
Q: It is the day of the patch and it's not available yet, where's my damn patch_
A: Adhesive Games and Meteor Entertainment use GMT -8 for their releases. Check your timezones
Q: What are the minimum required specs for Hawken_
A: Check this thread out by the devs:
http://community.pla...m-requirements/
Q: Can I run Hawken on a Mac/will it be available on Mac_ And why not_
A: Currently no, Hawken is only supported on (Windows) PC (and Shield when it comes out). People have been successful with Wine or BootCamp, or other Windows emulation software(_), but it may not work. Check the Useful Threads List.
As to why not, the game is built using DirectX, a Windows only multimedia and game "toolkit" (I'm simplifying here, use wiki
). Porting the game over to an alternative to DirectX is a huge and time consuming task, and given that the large majority of gamers use PC (nothing against other OS platforms), it would be unprofitable.
Q: What happened to advanced graphics options_
A: They're currently disabled. They'll be back soon, but for now you can tweak your INI files. Refer to the useful thread list. Just a few warnings: tweaking INI's is not supported by the devs, backup your original files, and ONLY modify the files in DocumentsMy GamesHawkenHawkenGameConfig not your install directory. They're back!
Q: When I hit F10 my game freezes, what's going on_ Or what is up with the ingame screenshots with F10_
A: F10 takes a tiled, high resolution, high quality screenshot in unreal engine. You can alt tab to unfreeze the game. Better still, you can disable the command all together, check out the
settings and console commands section. When you use F10, the game dumps an uncompressed image (bitmap aka the bmp files in your screenshot folder), which are unnecessarily big for the resolution. This is not the best way to take a screenshot, so I'd recommend using the proper screenshot mechanism (its a key binding in your input setting for "screenshot", it is usually F9) or using an application like Fraps or MSI Afterburner and saving as a PNG file. Why not save as JPEG_ You can use JPEG if you want, but PNG provides better quality and compression, and reduced "noise" compared to JPEG, as well as other cool stuff like see through bits.
Q: The "[insert name here].dll is missing" error is occurring, what is going on and how can I fix it_
A: It depends on while file is missing.
if it is MSVCP100.dll, you need to reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 using either of the following links (it depends on if you're running 32bit or 64bit windows
x86 (32 bit only):
http://www.microsoft...on.aspx_id=5555
x64 (64 bit only):
http://www.microsoft...n.aspx_id=14632
If its another dll, check the following link:

Q: I have a [insert super duper Nvidia graphics card here] and I'm getting poor performance, what's up_
A: The Nvidia 3D Vision drivers have been known to cause performance issues ... uninstall them and problem solved
. Next time do a custom install and exclude any 3D drivers
Q: I am getting a cannot connect to a reliable source error when I try to launch the game, how do I fix it_
A: go to [your install location]MeteorEntertainmentHawkenInstalledHawkenFiles (eg. C:Program Files (x86)MeteorEntertainmentHAWKENInstalledHawkenFiles) and delete your HawkenLauncher.version file
Q: I am getting (launcher) a error relating to the Hawken version, how can I fix it_
A: go to [your install location]MeteorEntertainmentHawkenInstalledHawkenFiles (eg. C:Program Files (x86)MeteorEntertainmentHAWKENInstalledHawkenFiles) and delete your Hawken.version file
Q: I'm getting an error with the launcher that says "Unable to download manifest", what do i do_
A: This is usually a server issue when its under heavy load.
If you've got the latest version and you're sure of it, you can just bypass the launcher and run the game .exe directly:
go to [your install location]MeteorEntertainmentHawkenInstalledHawkenFilesBinariesWin32 (eg. C:Program Files (x86)MeteorEntertainmentHAWKENInstalledHawkenFilesBinariesWin32) and run HawkenGame-Win32-Shipping.exe
If you're not up to date. Wait a little until the server load drops down and re-run the launcher.
Q: is there an NDA_
A: Alpha is still under NDA. Closed beta onwards, no. Post away!
Q: What is the difference between Meteor Credits (MC) and Hawken Points(HP)_
A: MC is based on real money and can be used to purchase things, including body parts, which can only be bought using MC. Hawken Points are gained ingame by playing the game, and can be used to purchase anything except for body parts (which are cosmetic only). When purchasing things, you can use either MC or HP (no item will cost a bit of both)
Q: Is Hawken Pay 2 Win_
A: No. People have been calling it pay 2 not grind or play 2 win though. Most useful things (items, etc) can be purchased with ingame Currency (HP). Body parts which are cosmetic only, is the only thing that can only be purchased with real money (meteor credits)
Q: What is required to be successful at Hawken_
A: The answer is simple, experience. Experience can be transferred to any mech unlike other things. You play the game long enough, you get better at it. Simple right!_ (Play 2 Win)
Q: First time/new player: how can I go up against a level 25 with a level 1 recruit_ And First mech purchase_
A: Time to quote myself XD:

The recruit mech is actually one of the most versatile mechs around, it works in most situations and despite appearances, it kicks fuzzy bunnies! That's why its the starter mech.
Hawken is a skill based game, and levels don't mean anything. Levels indicate that a player has played for long enough to grind out the XP and level the mech, but the game is oriented around player skill. I can pull out a level 1 recruit mech and face off against a level 25 and come out on top because I've been playing since closed beta. As someone on the forums said, its Play-To-Win!
For first purchases, try a test drive mech first before making your choice. Each class and mech has a differently play style and trying them out will help you find your next purchase
Also, have a read of the Hawken Tips and Tricks thread (link in siggy), it'll give you some insight into the game + some useful threads. Also check out the promo codes thread for some free HC
Q: Do levels mean much in Hawken_
A: a nice little AsianJoyKiller quote:

I'm just going to leave this here...
Basically: no. You can eventually grind out levels, so its non-indicative of skill, just effort_
Q: What happened to the server browser_
A: Its Back!
Q: Will my account be wiped/will I lose everything after open beta_
A: Nope. Your mechs, items, etc are here to stay. There will be no wipes from now on. OB can be considered as the game going "live"
Q: If I buy the same mech more than once, will my XP, items, etc carry over_
A: Nope. Its like having another mech completely. Nothing transfers over and you gotta purchase anything you want/need again. Best not to buy the same one twice IMO
Q: What is up with mech trial/rental mechs_
A: This is a generic question because there's a lot of things to note about trial mechs.
- You get to use the mech
- you cannot customize it
- you keep the EXP gained from it until you purchase it
- don't forget to buy it if you want it instead of buying another, you keep the XP, etc
Q: Can I sell a mech/item/internal/body/anything_
A: Currently no. You can purchase things, but refunding is not supported
Q: What is the difference between the Recruit (CR-T Recruit) Assault and the normal Assault Mechs_
A: The recruit mech is the starter mech for all players, the Assault has to be purchased. The differences are the cosmetics (they have different bodies), weapon loadouts, and internals. The recruit mech starts off with 'rookie internals' also
Q: What are rookie internals_
A: Internals that have no drawback to have active on your mech. Normal internals have some downside. Rookie internals now degrade after rank 20 and have a reduced effect
Q: Whats up with Vanguard Initiative (VI), Closed Beta (CB) and Alpha bonuses, why haven't I received it yet_
A: VI bonuses for now only apply to the Vanguard Cupcake mech only. Once account based inventory has been implemented, the skins, repair drone, and thrusters will be available. As for CB and Alpha, they'll be coming shortly also, when account based inventory is done VI, CB and Alpha bonuses are now out! If you have participated in them and haven't received your bonus, contact support.
Q: Do purchasable items (items, internals, weapons, mech parts) apply to every mech I have_
A: No, they only apply to a single mech and you have to buy them for each mech you want it on. The devs currently do not have account based unlocks.
Q: Why isn't the Shift+S Combo a reverse thrust instead of a 180 degree turn_ And the backwards dash counter argument
A: Here's the old thread on it:
http://community.pla...c-reverse-dash/

You're going to have to come up with some pretty extraordinary arguments as to why backwards boosting should be added to Hawken, because every previous attempt has failed.
Let me tell you exactly why there should not be backwards boosting: You can retreat while still keeping your crosshairs on your enemy. That's not how you retreat. You should not be rewarded for reckless, unstrategic behaviour (charging into a pile of enemies) with the ability to just rip right back out from the pack with your guns trained on them the whole time.
And:

Been discussed since Alpha.
The consensus is always no.
Want to know why_
The reverse dash mechanic is one that reduces how much thought you have to put into movement and making sure you're well positioned. If you accidentally run into a ambush, you can easily back dash to remove yourself immediately and place distance between you. It also trivializes close quarters combat play, as it allows you to continuously back away from a CQC class without having to turn your back on them, all while being able to periodically fire at them. When you learn to think about your positioning more, and don't overextend, you'll find you never need a back dash.
There's also the fact that it trivializes the skill of those who use 180 retreat tactics.
Q: Why does the mouse feel weird when turning your mech/is there negative mouse acceleration in the game_
A: There is none. Its a turn rate cap:
[ADH]Deuy said:
Hawken has a cap on turn speed, in other words you can't turn your character as fast as you can move your mouse. The max turn speed is a lot lower than most FPS games. This is in an attempt to simulate being in the cockpit of a huge machine, rather than feeling like a human spinning around.
A lot of people mistake this for negative mouse acceleration. In fact, when you flick your mouse to the side quickly you are indeed turning at the max speed cap, however you are only turning for a short moment because your mouse move was so fast (it ended quickly). When you move the mouse slower you can still turn at that same max speed cap, but you will be able to continue turning much farther because you're moving the mouse for a longer period of time.
You aren't being punished for moving your mouse faster, the mechs simply can't turn that fast and will stop turning when your mouse isn't moving. We tested having the mech "remember" your mouse movement and attempt to "catch up" to that motion, but this made the controls feel laggy and unresponsive. It was also a bit nauseating for a lot of people.
Hope that clears up some confusion.
P.S. - I personally asked an engineer to check on this based off the feedback from older threads. He looked into the code extensively and the info above is based off his testing. We even added a turn speed indicator to the hud for the Open Beta build of the game. You can see when you've hit the max speed cap now. The speed cap is hit right away with quick mouse movements and then drops off instantly. If you try moving your mouse very fast for a longer period of time (like dragging it quickly across the whole length of your desk) it's very difficult to not mix in up and down aim movement rather than just turning. I think this gives the impression that you just can't turn as fast as when you move the mouse slowly.
Q: Why don't we have full much customisation in the game_
A: Answer is a bit paraphrased, but:
Elix, on May 11 2013 - 04:59 AM, said:
This has been asked at least weekly since alpha. Let me tell you why it's never been done: It has been playtested, and it was awful. Giving people full customization meant that everything devolved into one or two minmax'd combinations that everyone played. If you weren't using a mech with the set of three or four OP combinations, you were intentionally handicapping yourself for no reason. It completely defeated the purpose of having customization.
But stay with me, here. If you separate the weapon loadouts and force people to make decisions, something amazing happens. With the application of individual special abilities and approriate selection of weapon loadouts, class roles emerge, and tactics and strategies begin to be created to fill the holes created around these new roles. Rocketeer is a medium to long range explosive house of paincakes, but it doesn't get any hitscan weapons. Sharpshooter is the premier long-range area-denial sniper mech, but it's not as suited for close quarters combat. On the other hand, the Reaper is a medium-range support sniper and short-range assassin, picking off weak people engaged in combat with the Reaper's teammates or darting after a weakened enemy trying to limp away. Raider gets in your face and blows it off, but it's not a very good counter to a Sharpshooter on the other side of the map.
These nuanced game dynamics came into being because you don't get to build your dream mech. There's a reason the Infiltrator does not get Berserker's damage boost ability and the Rev-GL (because the Infiltrator is a light cloaking striker, not a miniature Grenadier).
Q: Why don't body parts have attributes or benefits and are only cosmetic_
A: The developers designed body parts without attributes to prevent players buying the "most optimal" selection of parts. If this would happen, all mechs would look the same and the "pay 2 win" notion would arise. Having cosmetic only parts means that no one has an advantage over someone else for purchasing parts.
Q: Why aren't mech parts destructible_
A: To put it simply, Hawken is an Arcade/Arena style FPS, not a mech simulator (for example, like Mech Warrior). Also, given the pace of gameplay, it is difficult to specifically target areas and make "shots".
Q: Why aren't there melee mechs/laser swords in the game_
A: After countless discussions within the community, the consensus has resulted in a "no" by the community.
The developers have stated that they don't intend to add melee to the game, as it doesn't match up with Hawken's game dynamics and lore, and their position has not changed so far. If you think about it, all mech arms/struts are fixed position holders for weapons. And laser swords are for gundam etc, not Hawken.
