In the true fashion of the bold, brave, and beautiful, I am pleased to announce the Private Server Pioneer program.  I'm very excited for this - there are a lot people who have been requesting access to private servers, and this is the first stage of our roll-out.  We are using Eventbrite.com because we want to test out some fun new channels to make products available.  And, yes, vanity is a struggle of mine ;)
 
Here's the quick overview of what you get:

• 90 days of private server time
• A Hawken sticker (yeah, they're awesome)
• A Hawken mouse (G400 series - yeah, those awesome ones with the Hawken graphics)
• And you will likely get to hear a lot of the melodious sound of my voice, since I'm sure you may have questions along the way
• You can also score the Nemesis bundle for a good discount

Would be nice if you guys announced these kinds of things before making ticket sales live so we'd all have a chance to buy at a designated time, not just the people who happen to be online when you announce tickets are available for something. Especially with such limited quantity.

Assuming they're using the same backend that I tested, it'd be:

- server player count (positive)

- gamemode (positive)

- match duration (per gamemode) (positive)

- set radar default state on/off (unsure)

- tdm max score (positive)

- password (positive)

- set autobalance default state on/off (unsure)

- Siege base hp? not sure on that one

 

I'm going off of memory from 1 year ago, so the marked info may be inaccurate

I haven't discussed this bit with any admins asides from Xacius, but I wanted to write something quickly so that people were aware of our likely stance before they purchased private servers.

 

As far as I'm concerned, central servers remain the most fair option for North American players.  If you are a TPG participant, or if you plan on participating in the future, I would recommend selecting a Central server.  I don't know whether server regions will be selectable or changeable (and if they aren't, I suggest that those options be added), but if/when those options are made available, your safest bet is Central.

 

Teams are, of course, free to agree amongst themselves on a non-Central server, but if disputes arise, admins will likely push you toward Centrals.  This policy will certainly be the case for the remainder of Season 2, and it will likely be the case for Season 3.  We will be discussing it in-depth, however, so things may change in the future.

My guess is that you'll have to buy access to them. I mean, and I am sad to say so, it wouldn't be fair to other users is some people got free servers and other people have to pay for them. I personally am against the "everyone can rent a server anytime" point, because people will start to only play on their own server with their own rules. 

 

This is one of the reasons why we have Ultra-Violent Wednesday, a few hours a week where you can do all the gamemodes and mods, but otherwise you'd have to play not only 'like', but also 'with' everyone else, instead of being locked into the tower that is your private server. 

 

I'd suggest to only allow clans or events to use and rent private servers. This would put responsible people in charge of them and lessen the divide between pilots who want different mods. 

 

 

Still, having more public/private serves with bunker siege would be awesome :).

1) While I understand that we don't want people "playing with themselves" all the time, it would allow your higher MMR gamers to have someplace to actually get a game without Smurfing

I think this package is a bad idea.

 

I get it, the price is high and it is limited so only a dedicated few will buy it and beta test it. But I think renting private servers as they are now is way too early because they do not work as intended. This paywall is reall high for a half finished service not to mention it is not the best practice to charge money to beta test a feature the commnity already had limited access to.

 

There is a console admin feature where you can enable and disable some mods and change the current game mode and map, but you have no control over the server settings. Defter made a rudimentary web interface to edit these settings (like map rotation, time and score limit, player count and such) but it is not working at the moment. I guess you are going to fix this crude interface when it launches. Currently there is no way to have organised matches in this game considering the 6v6 match feature is down and the private server admin switch team command is not working at all.

 

It is also a bad idea to bundle it together with physical stuff like a mouse and a sticker. Event organisers and clan leaders would not want to buy this package more becuase of those and they should be the the target. The main purpose of these servers are clans and community events.

 

I noticed the disappearance of the private servers we just got back but I thought they are gone temporarily while the stress test is running. Before we got private servers we did our public events and even our clan matches on public servers. If there is no password random people can join in. Asking them to participate in the event (like the Night of the Living Fred) does not work all the time and if we have no other choice but to hunt them down it ruins the fun for both parties involved.

 

I am currently working on a new EU Fight Club event series with a lot of added value. A group of people already put a lot of work hours and money into it and it would be really sad to see it fail because of this initiative.
