How about the official flag of planet Earth?

 

this is the best that humans could come up with to represent their planet? Seven white interlocking rings on a blue background? A simplified map of the planet would have been so much better. Who made this official, anyway?

 

EDIT: Thinking about it, what about having a flag displayed on a fred's "screen"? (Don't most chassis in hawken use a camera instead of a window anyway?)

but in all seriousness I am probably one of the last people here who would genuinely have a viewpoint that ill-informed and jingoistic. This suggestion is mostly just because I like making all of my mechs look as amusing as possible and bothering people who care way too much about immersion.

 

Are you saying that you would rather make the game seem more light-hearted than bother with likely what people wanted when they came into the game? Or are you just commenting to the people who babble on too much about the immersion stand-point?

 

Because I think that the lack of immersion or the feel that you are actually in a mech is what is truly not keeping players right now. I think that it's also the reason why people label this game as a "COD clone with a different skin" and give up before they even give it a fair trail. All I want for this game is to kinda keep the old sound-effects and how it made it seem that you were actually in a mech rather than the current twitch shooter simplified, generic sounds. At the very least, I think that the immersion would convince people enough to give the game a fair trial.

I enjoy lightheartedly messing with everyone who is concerned with it tbh. I don't care and personally just want Reloaded to preserve the mechanics and keep the game balanced while incrementally improving things, but I can see why people would like some degree of immersion to stay.

If you check out the link in my post about this flag, you can see the reasoning behind the design.

 

"Centered in the flag, seven rings form a flower � a symbol of the life on Earth.

The rings are linked to each other, which represents how everything on our planet, directly or indirectly, are linked.

The blue field represents water which is essential for life � also as the oceans cover most of our planet's surface.

The flower's outer rings form a circle which could be seen as a symbol of Earth as a planet and the blue surface could represent the universe."

 

Personally, I really like the simplicity of the design, it makes you think about it. And besides, simply having a picture of Earth on the flag would be like a country simply having a picture of the outline of its borders as its flag. Too literal and boring, which is why no one does that.

 

Also, where would you center the image of Earth? On a specific country? In the middle of the ocean? Either way, someone is going to be upset that they live on the side not pictured on the flag.

i think my asperger's too strong for the symbolism. I'm very literal. I only understood the blue for the ocean.

I find the flag too simple, but that's just my opinion.

if i had to pick a center, it'd be either the north or south pole, maybe the latter since it's a continent. as for sides, i was thinking something like a butterfly projection, that shows all continents.

It's fine. W32 was joking with the eurocentrism comment similarly to how I wasn't being serious with the nationalistic remarks earlier. The <3 was one way she tried to communicate that, and a lot of her posts tend to be tongue-in-cheek.

Because then you get arguments of "Hey! my tiny island isn't on the map!" or "Why the !@#$ is  Europe in the middle of the map and not Asia or America" and then you get two other problems, number one being that you have to chose an appropriate projection for the map (and there will NEVER EVER be agreement on what the best projection is) and, most importantly, it would break one of the most important rules of flags, which is to keep things simple - it should be so simple that a child can draw it from memory... That makes the best flag. Having a map of Earth isn't creative, unique, simple, or representative.

 

It's not like the flag was made in an afternoon. A lot of thought went into it.

No, I'm from Australia - the island that floated away from Earth. The Uranians are just plain weird. We call them the "butt people" because they are the butt of a series of jokes that is circulating through the Milky Way which has something to do with their name and the human's anatomy of what they call "arse" or "ass" if you are from that part of the Earth that spells "colour" as "color" and calls biscuits, cookies.

The only reason I can see them not doing this is because if they do 1 country, they will get demands to do every other country. There are about 196 countries in the world soooooo yeah that would take awhile to put all those skins in the game......But I do love the idea though.

As soon as I saw the earth flag I saw fire. Some 150 years in the future that is going to be the hatred symbol of earth imperialism on moon and mars. Independence wars everywhere, flags being burnt (execpt on moon, because they don't waste oxygen on such silly things, they just launch the flags back to earth). Add a few centuries and the same thing is going on in Illal, exept they are propably burning flags of united jovian moons (UJM). Or something like that, I don't remember what the lore actually says who sent Illal iniative?

 

So why it's the flag of earth and not the flag of humanity?
