So, I found this game in my Steam queue and after reading a few reviews I decided to give it a try. I mean, free game right?

I've done the training and played a few rounds.. I did pretty well in a couple of them!

Guy named CybinBlue gave me a few tips, for which I thank ya.

The game seems fun so far, and I think I'm going to keep playing(at least until I stop having fun).

Any tips for a new player?

  1. Don't stop moving.
  2. Don't boost unless you have to, don't hover unless to gain an advantage: these things light you up on radar.
  3. Check your radar now, and then again at the end of this sentence. That is how often you need to be checking it.
  4. Learn to aim.

all what new players should know:
1) when you shoot TOW rocket, and press RMB again, you can detonate your rocket in air..
2) use dodge by k/d in fight, after several fights you understand how it working.

Thanks for the tips! I'm starting to get at least the concept of movement, if not being able to put it all into practice.

Half of the players I've run into tell me to stick with my starting machine and the others are telling me to try Scout or Infiltrator. I ran a game as Scout and it is fast!

Based on what I've read, it doesn't seem to hold up against teamwork or better players so I'm a bit leery of that.

I'll just decide once I level up a bit and get decent.

Max out your assault, the mech you start with. Get good with that then branch out as it will be much easier for you when you do try out new mechs. Don't be afraid to practice against co op bots, it is really helpful.

Welcome 7R33B34RD.

The "How to HAWKEN" Youtube-videos of SoldierHobbes11 are very helpful. They contain a lot of detailed information about the different mechs, their weapons and their playstyles. There are also videos about basic movement and essential game mechanics in HAWKEN. You find them here:

https://www.youtube...._38HESng/videos

I suggest you watch especially the clip "How to HAWKEN - The Scout". It's full of useful tips how to pilot that little papermade dirtbag mech successful. But beware! Once you get use to the Scout - prepare 4 being the most hated guy by the whole enemy team! Enjoy! ;)

Regards, gArphEus

I've been doing a LOT of reading when I'm not playing, so I've got at least a mental idea of what I'm doing ingame. If not being actually able to always make it work yet.

It's a matter of practice and experience. I'm getting better!

Bunny hop everywhere. To my utter annoyance it seems to work.

Your first purchase should be an air compressor, then you can augment your bunny hopping with air dodges and even seasoned players will get pissed.

To win though you need to get that out of your system, the game is at its best when the teams are putting their tactics on. Ambushing, Flanking, Suppression etc. I think I saw that happen once.

To clarify on bunny hopping, as there are at least two ways you could interpret that:

You can hold the boost and forward keys and tap the jump button every time you hit the ground to be more fuel efficient when boosting around. More on this here. Bunny hopping does not work in C mechs.

You can also use a single instance of the bunny hop as something resembling a forward dodge. Slower than a side dodge proper, but it has a separate cooldown to the side dodge so you can used it to do some fancy movement shenanigans.
