Heavy Armor: Useless?

A 35% reduction in boost/walking speed for a measly 5% damage resist? Isn't that a little excessive? Even Thrust Vectoring doesn't make up for the shortfall, and as soon as you get hit, you're now at a 45% speed penalty. I wanted to strap these to Hepten, think it's worth it?

There's some mechs where it MAY be SOMEWHAT viable.

It maybe has some potential on mechs with bruiser-like abilities, but the speed penalty is still significant.

Vanguard + turret mode. 0.4*0.65=0.26

 

Vanguard = 74% damage reduction from the front GG

but you still gain +% damage from behind, and people with TOW and GL will kill you. and you will be useless without turret. gg. turtle-life.

Worse than useless. Theoretically it's best on Charge, but the extra damage mitigation when the ability is popped is more than outweighed by the decrease in mobility. It's even worse because that mech needs to constantly close distances since it doesn't have a longer range secondary like TOW or GL to rely on outside of CQC. I wouldn't ever run Heavy Armor in a serious build or even in an off-meta one since everything gets slow and boring.

I guess on 36M maybe since that thing need to be turreted up to "function" and you aren't really going anywhere in that mode anyway.

I'm like 80% sure heavy armor doesn't stack with turret mode damage reductions, doesn't it say that right in the tool tip?

 

Also, it kinda messes with dodges.  I tried it on kirby, it seems to shorten the dodge, but then you kinda keep going still?  Really hard to explain, it's like the dodge ends prematurely, but you keep moving.  They should, at the very least, remove the dodge speed reduction, it would fix this weirdness and make it slightly less terrible at the same time.

if they have a function to do something, it is there to benefit t hem.  otherwise, why would they even hvae it?

I don't care if it makes my guns shoot emps, nothing is worth a 35% movement reduction

Especially for -%5 dmg, that isn't very good at all imo.

After some time they can balance it better. I rememner questioning the -35% speed when they first released as i thought it was a typo. Perhaps they can trial it for a week at -30 and at -25 so that it can ne properly tested by the PC milge.

Maybe, just maybe, if it was a one slot internal. But even then, I still wouldn't use it.

35% slower for 5% damage reduction. Useless cause if you are 35% slower you are going to take way more then 5% more hits, losing 3 internal slots for what amounts to a net loss in performance. Great if you are trying to handicap yourself to give the other players a better chance to kill you. Unless your style is to stand in 1 place using turret mode because your WASD keys are broke this internal is never going to help. Even then you will be better off using the slots for full orb lording internals or armor fusor. This item might be more balanced if it was something like 5% reduced damage but reduce speed by 10% or increase fuel consumption by 10%. A 35% speed penalty is a death sentence in this game, much to harsh even if this thing gave a more moderate gain.

 

Consider this:
 

Afterburner  (1 Slot) : 5% increased damage for 12% more speed.
Heavy armor(3 Slots): 5% decreased damage for 35% less speed.

 

These 2 items essentially have opposite effects favoring either an armor build or a dodge build. So then why weren't they balanced?

They can't be used together but they would actually leave you with a 23% speed debuff.

Afterburner is only 1 slot but Heavy armor is 3.

 

Proposed balance changes:

Heavy armor (1 Slot): 5% reduced damage, 12% less speed.

 

With this change there would be essentially 3 armor options to choose from:

 

Afterburner (1 slot): 5% more damage, 12% more speed. You trade armor for speed.

Heavy armor (1 Slot): 5% reduced damage, 12% less speed. You trade speed for armor.

Composite armor (1 slot): 15% reduced damage but temporary effect.

 

Seems like there should be a 4th option that's like composite armor but with 15% more speed instead. Or we just remove comp armor cause everyone complains when I use it. :rolleyes:

you probably don't want to see this on bruwler with deflectors and composite. making it 1 slot can made this internal more strange. 
maybe it need 2 slot, not 1 like composite. (to not get situation like with failsafe in ascension. anyway, even 25% is too big)

my op.
1 slot: -2% dmg, -3% spd
2 slot: -3% dmg, -7% spd
3 slot: -5% dmg, -12% spd

or

3 slot: -6% dmg, -15% spd
but don't slow dodge.

You can only equip 1 type of armor, you can't have heavy armor + composite armor so it doesn't matter. Just like you can't have afterburner + comp armor that would be way more OP.  And because you can only take one if it's 3 slots there's no reason to ever take it over comp armor or afterburner which is only 1 slot with stronger effects.

this thing broken in general.
can someone explain me, why i should waste 3 slot, if i can use deflectors x3 and gain 5 times more armor without sacrifice my moving speed?

It's a wrong calculation anyways. And yes, the damage addition from behind sucks but then again, nothing against choketown, a Vanguard and a tech behind. Maybe a Grenadier a little far back for extra firepower. Easy win I'd say for any match that is not top tier.

TBH, I want to strap Heavy Armor and Thrust Vectoring to a G2-Hepten and see how much punishment I can take, dodge disabled.

5% of a g2 brawler is only an extra 45hp. Thats not all that much extra, and at 35% slower you know you're gona cop at least 1 extra tow...

It may have been needed on console where its harder to aim unless enemies are mega slow but on PC most players can land tows majority of the time and when they miss, they'll getcha with the air burst...
