LostEco - worst map optimization on illal.

I tell about this error many times. today is another one.
just info for new devs.

Hawken optimization it is a strange thing.

let's begin. i have many test with config this whole week, game options, and other. But lostEco is always crash on my PC (actually, not only my as i know, but it is rare error), and I know only one way how to fix it, and force this map work throught game config.

I have cheap PC: intel-i3 (2 core), radeon HD5770 cucore 1Gb/256mb, 2Gb DDR3.
here result of tests.

Test N1: Default Hawken config. Texture mode - medium, Settings high.
FPS in hangar: 120-180
FPS in explore mode: 120+
FPS in fight: 90
FPS drop when many objects or yse boost: 30-50
LostEco result: "ran out of video memory" error
 

 

Test N2: Hawken config. Texture mode - medium, Settings high. +My tweaking in HawkenEngine.ini
FPS in hangar: 200+
FPS in explore mode: 170+
FPS in fight: 90
FPS drop when many objects or yse boost: 50-70
LostEco result: "ran out of video memory" error
 

 

Test N3: My 2D Hawken config. Texture mode - low, Settings low. +My tweaking in HawkenEngine.ini, Disabled almost all in HawkenSystemSettings.ini.

Test N4: My Regular Hawken config. Texture mode - low, Settings low. +My tweaking in HawkenEngine.ini, Disabled all in HawkenSystemSettings.ini. Disabled/decreased smoke and all textures, shadows and other useless sh!t.

FPS on lostEco (with "no-textured cfg") the same like a other maps. 90 in fight, drop to 55-80 sometimes, and very high FPS in explore mode.
 

 

Now i tell you about three commands in config, which actually help me to evade a "ran out of video memory" error.
 

TEXTUREGROUP_World=(MinLODSize=1,MaxLODSize=1,LODBias=1)

 

if Min and Max LODsize will be higher than 1... result = LostEco "ran out of memory"

when you made World LODsize = 1, than

TEXTUREGROUP_Terrain_Heightmap=(MinLODSize=288,MaxLODSize=288,LODBias=0,MinMagFilter=linear,MipFilter=point)
TEXTUREGROUP_Terrain_Weightmap=(MinLODSize=192,MaxLODSize=192,LODBias=0,MinMagFilter=linear,MipFilter=point)

 

if Terrain_Heightmap MaxLODsize will be higher than 288, and
Terrain_weightmap MaxLODsize will be higher than 192...
result = LostEco "ran out of memory".


Now i have a questions to Devs! How prevent a lostEco Memory Error? And why only one map is crashing on my PC? why other map working so good? no, not good...other maps working Excellent!

It is obviously for me. This fooking map is not working. it have 0% optimization, it is ugly, it is stupid, and this map should be deleted from game!
Okey, Wreckage is also big and detalizated map. but Why? Why i have 300 fps on Wreckage, but LE is crashing if i use textures a little higher than 1x1 pixel? WTF!?

No neeed to teel me than problem in my PC. This fuking map is BROKEN!
fuzzy bunny Unreal 2007 probably give me a 1.000 FPS if i use the same config which i use for hawken. just lol...

i don't know how, but you should do this. delete part of map, or delete unvisible part of map, or delete polygons and textures under the floor,  delete several trees or branches, or backgroung mountains, added a fuzzy bunnyng "fog of war" which makes part of map invisible, or delete whole map... i don't care how! just fix this fuzzy bunnyng thing! this map make me unhappy...

Nah man. They don't need to fix Last Eco, they need to remove it from the game.

Because when lost Eco was a last map in rotation EVERYONE LEAVE FROM IT! nobody love! we all start play in siege on Origin, than Bazaar, than Frontline, Than...wait, it is lostEco? sorry. i leave. just leave. i start Siege again on Origin! sorry, lostEco, no chance...You're not going to get me to play on you.

I will notice... i actually think that lostEco is a not bad map for Siege mode...BUT NOT WHEN IT CRASH MY HAWKEN!!

iv never had particularly bad performance on eco, not worse than bazaar anyway, though i do feel the map needs some work, it never feels right, which is my uneducated way of saying its probably poorly designed, though i worry about removing it before the game has a replacement.

I have to disagree with the MA part. The FPS issue is a problem, I'll absolutely agree, but as an MA map, Last Eco is fine. It encourages the use of a lighter, faster mech comp because of the sheer size of the map. Those deleted areas get used all the time. Without them, it would probably be nearly as bad as Origin for MA, because it would turn into "Hold Pride Rock and Win."

 

But yeah sure, cut those areas from Siege. Can't remember the last time I used them.

 

Last Eco has great value as a 12+ person map, topologically. It's just that, as nepacaka has pointed out, the foliage completely breaks it.

with config it have perfect performance, but this map is just cause crashes when loading. something wrong with textures swap/loading/streaming. i don't know why, but LE textures babajied so much, and ruin your memory. it is how it working.

 

I have to disagree with the MA part.

 

brawler need 20+ second (in game where match equal 12-15min) to travel from one point to another. this is most bored map for C-class in MA.
than when you capture all 3 Silos, Enemies start falling on your head, because circle maps have a superb design, and superb respawn which allow enemies falling on your head... but true in fact, that you need capture only 2 Silos to win without any problems, and hold the enemies at the last Silo, where they will always respawn...

Obviously, it is a best map designed for MA mode ever! lol.

Facility and Bunker also is very stupid in MA, but sidtance between Silo is smaller, FC and BU even more chaotic, but you no need spend 20 second to travel through whole map after each respawn.
But! Facility not lags, not crashes, not big, have a 2 floors and good for different mech types (for mechs with close combat weapons, for example! it is not the same like play on LE at slow Flak-Brawler, Flak-Brawler can normally play on open Facility!)

You never think, why only small amount of people play in MA? (actually, MA is interest only on linear maps, circular maps is very randomly)

 

Those deleted areas get used all the time.

 

in Siege mode? Nobody. Nobody used this areas in Siege mode.
delete this parts, and delete map from MA rotation will be a really god solution, and it size changed to normal like other maps. my suggestion solved several problems in one time.
- delete boredom from map

- delete crashes and high textures loading
- delete FPS problem for many people (not all players play on i7 with 16Gb ram, ok? online-games shouldn't be demanding to PC resources!)
- delete areas which never used in siege

- ???

- profit.

 

Nobody here can't suggest better solution than i already suggest for this map. If you can, suggest your variant.

12+ person maps, in game when people play with 40 FPS?
in game, when i always play in siege 5vs6, or 3vs4. lol.

i clearly remember how look 12v12 frontline MA. it was chaotic, no teamplay, and no skill game mode. and it is just true. it not compared with hawken in noone place.

i already say. Absolutely doesn't matter how they fix it. even if devs cut down all the trees and leave only one stumps. i agree. Just do it.

Actually Nepa, beyond the blue fence, the map is really 2~3x bigger than what we actually get to use. Not only is it bigger than what we can see but just like inside the blue fence with all the grass, and other foliage as well as the trees. There's loads of it outside the blue fence as well so much so that it makes LastEco one of the biggest memory hogs in the game, on average with max settings there's around 2.1~2.4GB worth of texture data loaded into video memory, on minimalist settings outside of your configs, there's around 1.4GB of texture data. For a game that touts itself as being a minimum of 512MB of vram required this is clearly false since this map kills anyone who doesn't have at least a 2GB or greater GPU.

Last Eco is one of the maps that forced me to drop my quality settings, and I'm generally not keen on playing it either.

 

Have you considered getting more ram. Another 2GB of what you already have should help your general PC enjoyment. I cant believe Photoshop can even be used these days with only 2GB :P I have 12GB and will use all of it easily.

i repeat. grass, leaves, trees - it is not a problem.
this map have a problem with world textures, and terrain height (landscape). this thing broken this map for everyone. if you decrease amount of map textures, and made map landscape less (i.e. cut part of map, to made it "easier"). It can be a good map.
 

Have you considered getting more ram. Another 2GB of what you already have should help your general PC enjoyment.

 

this fact that i have only 2Gb ram is not a problem... problem in LostEco!
 

What's the difference which memory i have, if the map working slows for almost everyone average player with average PC?
If a method of textures loading/swaping
is absolutely useless and working very bad?

did you really think my FPS so bad with 2gb ram? it is probably more higher than some people have with 8gb.
for me - problem not in lostEco FPS. this map is working incorrect and not optimized at all.

Disabling the texture calls is one thing, but you'd need to remove the mesh calls in general, even with textures off it still has to propigate polygons.

but it work. even with this, when i edited texture to 1, i can play with detailMode=0 (grass disabled), or with detailmode=2 (tonnes of grass enabled)
look. even if you decrease height to 1, and transform whole lostEco into big cube (just make a map unplayable), and have a higher res. textures, lostEco is still crashes.
but when you disabled textures, it start working even with huge amount of grass and meshes. So, i think problem in texture streaming method, or bufferization, (i actually don't know how it called correct =/ ). I mean, game crash when LE trying to put many textures in memory.

wreckage also have a lot of textures, if look go behind map.
i think problem in group of textures. i mean, maybe one of texture group have so many textures.
abstract example:

Prosk map
- texture group 1. Floor. 5 textures.
- texture group 2. Trees. 5 textures.
- texture group 3. Cars. 5 textures.

LostEco map
- texture group 1. Floor. 13 textures.
- texture group 2. Trees. 1 textures.
- texture group 3. Cars. 1 textures.

or something like this. and game trying to load all of it in one moment, and than hawken have a fiasco.

Issue isn't the amount of textures being loaded, it's the number of draw calls. Last Eco is much larger than Prosk is, Last Ecos' texture range from 256 squared all the way up to 2048 squared, where as the biggest in Prosk is 768 squared. What's causing the issues on Last Eco is each group of foliage is being rendered in multiple draw calls, Unreal Engine supports large mesh calls when compared to the current vector call, it offers significant performance increase, since it's no longer shading and drawing everything seperate, but rather shading and drawing everything together. As I tried to explain in another post, the fewer draw calls there are the lower the memory use. Look at Unreal Tournament 3, looks just like Hawken, on the same engine as Hawken but yet, requires vastly less when it comes to memory needs, UT3 even with some HD texture mods, uses up only 800MB of GPU vram, where as Hawken is here often using double that. Unreal Tournament 3 is using the best of what Unreal Engine 3 has to offer, by using Differed Shading in combination with meshes, and skeletal meshes. Unreal Engine 3 has the ability to group a set of meshes together and draw them together, shade them together to ease up on GPU power and memory, I don't know what the men and women at Adhesive were thinking when they programmed it this way. But clearly it has it's consequences, mainly killing low end graphics cards.

but i think, 900mb it is not much, actually.

1.67gb totally, and 780 mb without hawken (370mb is firefox, if i close it, it will be less, about 1.3Gb and 380mb)
gpu loading 30-60% (60% when hawkin loading. early i made some test, if i remember correct, when i load LostEco, gpu jump to 100% and than ha?ken iz ded)

 

In any case, all popular games working good even on low PC. maybe this is why they popular? :D

i think it is not bad if hawken would working stabile. + i'm not one who have the same crashes

 

just think, how many people not writting i support when get a crash? start the game, say "hello" to memory crash, and than think: "meh, this game is sh!t" and delete hawken.
and how many people from these trying to find a solution? read manuals, making a config, and play without any graphics?

i don't think so many. and i think hawken should be more stabile. it is one of the reason why hawken shouldn't have 20vs20 modes, and bigger maps.

this is why hawken should have town-maps, which looks nice, and don't have a heavy landscape and trees. LostEco - it is a gamedesign error from any points of view.

this is the worst map of on a combination of factors. even stupid Bunker better than LE in all, and have much more pros like map.

 
Just notice, that only one map kill for me whole game! If I did not know how to set up config, I would have just gone to another game, for the reason that the game does not start at all. who love play in game which crashing everytime?
It is really important. it is not a another "balance issues" or "scout is OP!". it is part of game quality. you can easily play when scout is OP, but you can't play when you game just crash!
and i actually think, that LE is a really one of the serious problems of hawken. (because it is part of optimization problem, and should be solved)
 
for example. I love Robocraft game. but after patch this game just unplayable, it crushes every 2 match, or you car falling under floor, or something else bad happen. just itmpossible to play. i like this game, but can't play normally. it is bad.


p.s. you remember old HUD with those nice rangefinder, which is "Drop FPS too much"? How ADH solved this problem? delete the HUD! easy! :D

in exploration mode:
1) first person camera - 60-90 FPS
2) third person camera - 140-180 FPS
...They actually delete HUD, but HUD is still cause a lot of FPS drop! ;P
ADH is liars, problem was in HUD in general, not in old HUD which they deleted :?

iv never had particularly bad performance on eco, not worse than bazaar anyway, though i do feel the map needs some work, it never feels right, which is my uneducated way of saying its probably poorly designed, though i worry about removing it before the game has a replacement. 

Oh god..Bazaar..on my old pc...  :wallbash: But yeah they need to fix the maps at some point,for example bazaar was giving me 30-40 fps,while uptown steady 70+..i dont remember exactly about last eco,but it was creepling my gameplay.

i install MSI afterburner, and try made a some test with it.
what i know about it right now.

 

Hawken Doom config (lostEco crash)
ram usage - 1400 mb
pagefile usage - close to 1400 mb
video core clock - 850 hz (max of my video card)

video memory clcock - 1200 hz (max of my video card)
heat - 65-75
When lostEco crash: CPU loading increase to 100% on split second, and game crash.
When All other map loading, CPU loading maximum increase to 65-75%. while i play in hawken CPU loading = 30-33%.
 

Hawken NoTexture config (lostEco Not crash)
ram usage - 1500 mb
pagefile usage - close to 1500 mb
video core clock - 850 hz (max of my video card)

video memory clcock - 1200 hz (max of my video card)
heat - 65-75
lostEco NOT crash: CPU loading increase to 100% on split second, and game continue loading, than CPU increase to 70% and match is started.

After LE is loading i play with stabile CPU loading = 30-33%.


So, this game crashes when it loading, but it not seems like it have problem with memory on my config. Ithink, problem in other place ;D
but that fact, that i can loading it only without textures.
another fact, RAM usage never increased higher than 1500 (with Doom config with textures, it even low than on my Regular config, about 1300-1400, it seems like it even more optimized than regular config, because each textures using "point" method, instead of "linear/anisotropic", and super low quality!).

I start think, than 2 gb ram and is pretty enogh to make hawken work very stabile. Probably, lostEco problem not related with fact that i have a 2Gb ram at all...

Okay guys. How about another idea. Increase map FPS, but changing map background to lower quality.

just info for new devs.

Hawken optimization it is a strange thing.

let's begin. i have many test with config this whole week, game options, and other. But lostEco is always crash on my PC (actually, not only my as i know, but it is rare error), and I know only one way how to fix it, and force this map work throught game config.

I have cheap PC: intel-i3 (2 core), radeon HD5770 cucore 1Gb/256mb, 2Gb DDR3.
here result of tests.

Test N1: Default Hawken config. Texture mode - medium, Settings high.
FPS in hangar: 120-180
FPS in explore mode: 120+
FPS in fight: 90
FPS drop when many objects or yse boost: 30-50
LostEco result: "ran out of video memory" error
 

 

Test N2: Hawken config. Texture mode - medium, Settings high. +My tweaking in HawkenEngine.ini
FPS in hangar: 200+
FPS in explore mode: 170+
FPS in fight: 90
FPS drop when many objects or yse boost: 50-70
LostEco result: "ran out of video memory" error
 

 

Test N3: My 2D Hawken config. Texture mode - low, Settings low. +My tweaking in HawkenEngine.ini, Disabled almost all in HawkenSystemSettings.ini.

FPS on lostEco (with "no-textured cfg") the same like a other maps. 90 in fight, drop to 55-80 sometimes, and very high FPS in explore mode.
 

 

Now i tell you about three commands in config, which actually help me to evade a "ran out of video memory" error.
 

if Min and Max LODsize will be higher than 1... result = LostEco "ran out of memory"

when you made World LODsize = 1, than

if Terrain_Heightmap MaxLODsize will be higher than 288, and
Terrain_weightmap MaxLODsize will be higher than 192...
result = LostEco "ran out of memory".


Now i have a questions to Devs! How prevent a lostEco Memory Error? And why only one map is crashing on my PC? why other map working so good? no, not good...other maps working Excellent!

It is obviously for me. This fooking map is not working. it have 0% optimization, it is ugly, it is stupid, and this map should be deleted from game!
Okey, Wreckage is also big and detalizated map. but Why? Why i have 300 fps on Wreckage, but LE is crashing if i use textures a little higher than 1x1 pixel? WTF!?

No neeed to teel me than problem in my PC. This fuking map is BROKEN!
fuzzy bunny Unreal 2007 probably give me a 1.000 FPS if i use the same config which i use for hawken. just lol...

i don't know how, but you should do this. delete part of map, or delete unvisible part of map, or delete polygons and textures under the floor,  delete several trees or branches, or backgroung mountains, added a fuzzy bunnyng "fog of war" which makes part of map invisible, or delete whole map... i don't care how! just fix this fuzzy bunnyng thing! this map make me unhappy...

My old PC used to crash on last eco almost every time, about 1/35 times I could actually get on and it was laggy as heyall, the christmas map loaded on first few tries but never the greenery. Luckily im on a new PC now, but it seems not many people have issues with preformance on LE so when I used to complain, nobody seemed to bat an eye.


  

What if we just give some bacon paint, some bacon holo-emotes and change Bunker from snow to bacon.

 

This way, everyone will be happy.

What you should really do, is replace your parts with bacon, so you can cook games and eat bacon

Obviously the wallpaper would be cooler if bacon was incorporated into it.

it is a second or third topic about LE, early i also talking with tech support, but they cant help me, they tell that i have 2Gb memory, and it is a problem. But i'm don't think so.
actually, several players also create topics that they have a 4-8Gb and powerfull PC, but lostEco crash every time.

probably, problem exist on several videocard models.

Another interest fact.
If i use Ultra settings, and turn on all option. i have a 5-10 FPS on frontline. This map loading fast like usually, but than i see black screen. after 5 sec i see how hangar appear. after 25-25 sec mech appear in hangar, than appear lighting and other textures. game loading very long and lagging about 50 sec.
But Frontline and other Doesn't Crash!

LostEco is working. Detail Mode = 2, Smoke, Trails, Decals - Enabled. Draw distance = 3.
 

how it was fixed?
1) disable videocard texturing cache. textures now probably load into ram only
2) increased pagefile to 8Gb only on disk D:/
3) Decreased some light/shadow in HawkenLighmass
4) Working with some texture streaming.

i actually don't know which command help me, but probably, it is combination of config commands.

Interest fact, that DetailMode absolutely don't have any affect on crashes. you can set it to 0 and nothing changes. LE crashing only if you start increase textures resolution. smoke, decals and other effect also not related with crashes at all. even if you set it to max value. Problem only in textures, which trying to go into your video memory in one moment.

config was created with maximal optimization which is possible. if i trying increase any textures resolution, LE start crashing again. but it is actually doesn't matter because i reach my point. i maded cool doom config, and it is working stabile on every map!
