why?
Russian hawken community (analog of facebook) have a 5k+ players. yes, many players leave, or not visit group, or visit, but wait changes and not play. but it is good from advertise point i think.

moar people, moar talking, moar interest.

and you can spread from player to player, between friends, or something... (oh, even i don't understand what i say ;D)

Or he doesn't want to participate in the group because he do not want others to know his identity. Which I can understand and agree with since I know I do not want any of you people to find out more about me. And why join a Facebook group when the forums are up?

I think there is nothing bad to have a group in social net, where people can discuss the events happened to them in today's matches, as well as to see the hawken news or update (if it happen), with reference to the source website. (ie playhawken.com)

it is like "hawken twitter". i don't understand nothing in this, but it looks not bad: 4k tweets, 12k readers. yep, it not so much, but even 100 new players (who stay in game at long period) it is good for hawken. imo.
Of course, you must maintain people interest every day. I'm 80% sure that when the developers released the first update. some % of skeptical players return. Now they do not play, and just look, "Ha?ken iz ded, or not to ded?"
But these players should be informed about this. will be better if they know about it in one time. social net can help with this, because many peoples use facebook or the same site almost every day.

I know that the reality is likely to be quite different, and i want too much :D, but it would be nice if the players themselves have helped spread the game and good and interesting news. We can not just run a large advertising campaign like Blizzard. So, comunity should/can help with this. like videos on youtube, guides in steam, and other stuff.

That wasn't exactly tactful, but I'd like to clarify to OP that there is more to this than Amid just being a fuzzy bunny:

 

People have been making steam groups and clubs and meeting spaces and the like once every few months since as long as I have played the game at least. In fact there are 3-4 hawken steam groups that tired to set up a hub scrims after the previous ones failed, only to meet the same fate.

 

The issue here is that, if you don't have a lot of players on board already, you are competing with other channels that are more established and more comfortable. #hawkenscrim, Unofficially Official Hawken Teamspeak, TPG, and these forums are all too well established to pull players from just by saying "here look its a thing I made!".

 

Don't let that discourage you from participating in the established community. Just be aware that we (think we) have things pretty well figured out and tend to hate change.

To make hawken group interesting you should put much effort to make it good. I mean, you should post interesting things, and added community stimulus to visit your hawken group every day. Moderate it, and other things. No one say that this is easy. When/if you group start increased population, people start posted any things too.

Actually, when we make our social net we have a very active administrator, who make a website, and everyday moderate group, find information and many others. It is hard work, and required alot of time.

When ADH give us 20.000 hc codes, it helps. Our admin spread it through group . People love free cookies.
But even better
- create a new update with mech
- send for all people who was registered in hawken notice letter like "hey pilot, hawken is nut ded, return in game and we get you a gift!"
- Start some advertising activities or game event with MC prizes
- Wait dividends

Maybe need added some referal program? Like if you friend registered in hawken, you gain some HC and unique camouflage! (yeah, but it should be create with some attention, because it is actually can cause a tonnes of smurfs, who want a unique camo... XD)

The game itself should be the incentive to play, to purchase MC, and what draws people in.. otherwise what's been happening will continue to happen.
