I browse the forums. They're up all the time. On my third monitor.

I don't post. I mean. I'm one of the top posters... ever... on both forums. But not now!

This disappoints me. I like you guys.

Some of you.

A few.

How many other people that I like are just sitting here, waiting. Not participating except in the most trivial of fashions, skipping over almost every new thread, maybe even (gasp) doing something productive with their lives?

This is just a conversation thread. I'd like to keep some of the older people who have little reason to stop by, stopping by.

Introduce some personal details, what's new, what you're proud of, show us pictures, what you suck at, definitely show us pictures.

I mean, if this were a public park or forum or something, I'd bring some food and drink and comfy chairs and couches and maybe some super smash bros melee and a few beds and cars and things, but this is the internet, and I cannot.

Omni - tell us about your life outside of videogames. Some of us doubt it exists!

THC - tell us about your life outside of thc. Some of us doubt it exists!

Cluster - tell us about your life outside of being fourteen. Some of us doubt it exists! oh.

I mean, the community is what keeps me around, has. But that's about it right now. I don't want to drift away and all.

I'm aggressively learning C++ (8 hours a day figuring stuff out, debugging, writing things).

Fifth day in. Just wrapping up the third chapter here: http://www.learncpp.com/ though I spend a fair amount of time pinning down every single expression I don't know - and I'm very happy with the constant activity that can be found on stackoverflow.com.

Very much enjoying it. Every time I'm able to use something new to create a program that I couldn't before I'm all

Spoiler

Lagavulin remains the best Scotch ever.

Ardberg Uigedail is a good second. None of that pretend Lagavulin, Bruichladdich. (I won't complain if you send me it though.)

Schneider Weiss is competing with Jack's Abbey for favorite beer. (Though completely different in beers and brewing style.)

Blanton's remains a nice kickback for bourbon and Knob Creek for basically just violently forgetting existence.

I had this really nice job lined up in NYC/Patagonia/Tuscany where I would be working directly with the owner of a ... big... wine company to coordinate with press and other marketing stuff, but unfortunately they opted on another candidate prior to the third interview - which is sort of a shock, because I'm kind of good with those sorts of things.

Here are some songs that are good.

Prog Metal

(seen these guys, always been a goal to play with them, but they never wind up in the same place as me. My music taste has changed drastically over the years - I still enjoy almost all of what I ever listened to, but you know, preferences and all - but these fuzzy bunnyers have just. They've always just rode the crest of that wave no matter where it is in the stupid ocean that is music.)

Spoiler

Metal

(If you like this sort of stuff. Which. I. Uh. do.

Spoiler
)

Spoiler

Surf Punk

(These guys are hit or miss. What's good is really fuzzy bunnyng good. What's not is "What are these headbuds doing near my eardrums")

Classical

(Sarah Chang is just. fuzzy bunnyng. stupidly. What the fuzzy bunny. Everything she touches that is a violin could be used as a sex toy even if it was 20 feet away.)

Though more recently in classical:

(Been going through Doctor Who for the first time - that's a fuzzy bunnyng weird show (lol it's weird because it's England), but this is a much more engaging song than previously if you're not freakishly into violin, and she has a voice that's comparable to Chang's violin.)

Hip Hop

(I have no comment. This song is good. Vince Staples is good.)

But most recently I've just had "Mord Fustang Radio" active on Pandora, so I get stuff like this - none of which are really meant to appeal to the general discerning public, but still a little more casual and nice as background music to pretty much anything:

On food!

My dad's a chef. My stepmom's a chef. My mom cooks for an extended family of not going to count right now. Food has just been there for my entire life. I know food.

Kraft macaroni and cheese + some fuzzy bunnyng peas is a really good food. Terrible for you. Awesome.

There are better foods but that's what's on my mind right now at 3:30 on a Friday morning.

This is a picture of my dog in a sweater.

Spoiler

I understand when nothing happens here and all, we get dragged away by real life, but try and relate guys, I work all of 7 hours a week if that. There's only so much non-Hawken I can take.

That being said, since it's dragging us all away, let's drag a bit back here. Try for a second or two to put at least the forums back on monitor number 1.

That makes two.

Well. Three. Including ur mom.

I'm actually kind of just worried that if all the old guard go off duty, the culture we have/had/want will kind of just fade away and the community we used to spend so much time engaged with will come back to a festering pit of tweens.

Also it came to light when I was all of 10 years old that I'm a terribly self absorbed human being. That comes with a lot of perks, but a major downside is that people want to talk about stuff that's not you.
That's no fun.
Actually the real downside is you have a hard time discerning when you're dominating the conversation until it's too late.

That's another route of conversation! You know, the feely stuff.

Not sure really what to talk about if it is myself. I mean I like talking and that, but also know that due to posts from before and my age I know that, intentional or not, the topics, subjects and my opinions will be looked upon as 'not equal', if that makes sense. Hooray social anxiety.

I've been on these forums for 156 days (thanks to Kaiser), checking them pretty regularly, and playing as much as I can, which really isn't that much (70 hours). Like all of us, I've developed opinions about the game, some swayed by the community and forums, others just by playing. The core of the game is great, and has lots of potential, but the community, and forums really is what brings you in. For me, the low player count actually brings something kind of nice. Any other game, its pretty much impossible to run into someone you know at random. But here, there is plenty of people I recognize in games. At first, honestly i didn't like the game because it felt awkward, and i just didn't get a feel for it. But after a bit i started getting the hang of it (mostly because of kaiser, or at the time meatmissle, who crammed as much information about the game down my throat from day one,(including many opinions, such as cheese incinerator) and basically was my personal Hawken trainer. Although leaving a few things out, such at the full orb lord flak scout that he threw me together might be a little cheese) anyway, this game is pretty much my life now, I've tried to get a few people to play it, most didn't stay.

This game is probably one of the coolest mech games, 3rd to exteel and armored core. I think this game has the utmost potential to become one of the best games out. When I went inactive the game had new devs or something i'm not sure on it's current state, but I planned on logging in soon. The community here is definitely awesome for the most part, matches are generally friendly (generally) and a few people even went out of their way to give me some tips in..Fight club? I think was the name of it :V it's been awhile. Most people I brought to the game quit because there was no real solid visible evidence of progress in development... but hopefully that's changed. Got some reading to do :3

Let's conversate! For me, streaming is an opportunity to "hang" with my Internet friends and make new ones. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I'm always down to party in some other games, share funny videos, or just talk about the universe.

A non-hawken update on myself: I'll be going off of my pizza diet to try soylent this weekend. I can't wait to mix it with Waffle Crisp.

Hawken update: WarWed clips are coming but youtube is a fuzzy bunny. Expect slug reaper and eoc raider highlights soon.

I think Tickle is lonely :c

Of course! Who isn't.

Well. That idiom isn't necessarily true. Plenty of people aren't lonely - but by plenty that's still probably a pretty small percentage. No matter who you talk to or how often, there will always be that splinter of uncertainty and doubt and that all the familiarities in the world can't reconcile the inherent difference of being in your own mind, can't truly connect -  that despite the fact that in the most literal of physical senses, in that energy is never destroyed, we are all very literally connected, that somehow our skin and bones and muscle will ultimately prevent us from experiencing the world outside of them.

Sex, drugs, religion, passions - they're all about countering that line of thought. But so is conversation, so is the exchange of meaningful information. Not only is it distracting, but it is reassuring to occasionally hear your own thoughts echoed back to you from outside your body, and if you're lucky, sometimes hear something that you've never heard or thought before but still somehow resonates with your identity. That's usually cause for an extended friendship or relationship.

The problem is the things listed above, as well as many many others, can skew our perceptions of ourselves, and people are bad at letting it all go at the end of the day, so we wind up in these imperfect, slightly twisted, off by half an inch (for idiomatic/metaphorical purposes, inch just has a way better aesthetic than "centimeter") relationships that feel like you've broken a bone you never knew you had, but it's healed just a bit wrong. For that sort of reason, sometimes the best counter to loneliness is actually being alone and reconnecting with yourself and recognizing that despite all the nonsense that we're instinctively driven to throw ourselves at and frantically connect with like a coked up gorilla attempting to get the damn usb cable in right, there's still all of this stuff inside that's incredible to experience and realize that even those connections we all seek still feel good because it's inside us to feel good.

So, lonely, actually no. Loneliness as I see it and experience it is sort of a byproduct of absence from yourself.

Desiring connection?

Of course. Who isn't?

(That's what Tinder is for.)

On a serious note, there's nothing wrong with letting the old guard fade away. Things come and go, that's how it is. Plus, in the unlikely event Reloaded somehow manage to resurrect the game, most vets will come back.

It's a note of personal anxiety. It's rare for me to become as involved with an online community in the same way I have been with this one. Seeing it dissolve is an experience that if I could choose, I would choose to not experience.

Not sure really what to talk about if it is myself. I mean I like talking and that, but also know that due to posts from before and my age I know that, intentional or not, the topics, subjects and my opinions will be looked upon as 'not equal', if that makes sense. Hooray social anxiety.

I think you might be bringing that one on yourself. Your posts are generally indecipherable (in a good way) from any of the other people that have been around for a long time. If it weren't for the three or four times you've knocked your own age, I'm pretty certain no one outside of your clan would have any idea - and that being said, I feel young as hell at 23 (but it's different when your week consists of ensuring that products and payments are processed and received across four different countries and you pay people twice your age ~$7 an hour [and that's a lot, comparably speaking]). Point being, oftentimes feeling young and inexperienced is just cause to jump in and take the experience.

Here's a thing, the next time you feel socially anxious, I want you to envision this:

Spoiler

You're in the center.

In this white space are all the things you feel are pressing in on you, blocking your view, preventing you from just being you. Doesn't matter how you imagine them, they don't have to be fully realized as long as their presence is felt, you can picture them as boxes, or buildings or people or anything else, as long as right at the center is you.

Now all you've got to do, is push them off the screen. You can do that however you like, you can build a thousand foot riot shield and just push really hard, you can put yourself in a massive bulldozer and start toppling skyscrapers, or you can you can just do it by hand.

That's it. As long as you can fully commit to imagining the process, as long as you allow your anxieties to be expressed and you allow yourself to feel the same sort of pressure, as long as your head is fully in that moment, visualizing your anxieties as these objects, you can pretty much always gain a moment's respite by doing that.

I learned that trick when I was something like 9 years old and a Spongebob episode came on where they like, broke time and it was just them in the middle of this giant white space. It's worked for me every time, but that doesn't mean it works for everyone. Just give it a shot.

Yes, THC members do have a life ... I know I do, hence why I'm not around as frequently as before. First year in the road of becoming a software engineer. *sarcastic yey*

I'm still the best baller, rapper and definitely shittalker among all of you.

Anyways, if you're putting so much time into learning C++, I totally think you should check this book out:"C++ Primer, 5th Edition" . It's agreed apon to be the best mid-level C++ book out there, or at least among the very best.

http://it-ebooks.info/book/1256/

As for the language, after 2 years and a half all I can say is that it's as powerful and as flashy as a pair of nunchucks, but that means it takes so much time and effort to master and you'll usually wish you were using something else. Unless you see yourself as a future game programmer, run away before it consumes your life.

The quakenet C++ IRC channel (#c++) is awesome. You'll get some good advice, answers, help ... most of people there dicks, just FYI, but they're still good.

K bye

K bye

Thanks for those.

I will check them out. As far as C++ goes, there was a college course available in high school, which I promptly convinced my school to let me take a few years early. Stuff has changed a little bit since then, but only a little. I still remember most of the stuff from that course, so I figured if I'm going to learn a few programming languages I may as well start there.

I got a 100 in that class.

At first that was because I was just good at it, but then I figured it was easier to just find a time when the teacher wasn't at his desk, print off his solutions, give them a couple formatting tweaks, sell them to my classmates, and play video games the rest of the period.

Ah well.

Regardless, I really do enjoy programming in it - streamlining the main function to basically be just a function call list is always a temptation, and it's hard not to give every single thing I write its own function, but I'm always happy when I can draw up the parts of a small program on a piece of paper and ten minutes later have a working thing. The other day I wrote something to test my knowledge of C++, and then started working a program to recognize certain keywords in the question and output an answer. Unfortunately I'm still doing it in multiple choice, but my goal is to develop something to teach the program some basic English syntax and compose an answer from a header file of various words.

I'll be honest, I've gotten a little lost with it a few times, and I'll be more honest, the point of the program is essentially recursive, (and I've yet to figure out or learn of a way to have one program respond to the other program, so right now I'm just inputting the answers from one manually), but all play is recursive.

Meanwhile I literally learned about the "while" loop just yesterday, so I think I'm in over my head, but how else do you learn?

After I feel satisfied with my knowledge of C++, I'll probably move on to Java, just based on how common it is, but I'd like to be good at something more obscure, like Haskell - not that I have much of a knowledge of what it is. It's just a language I've heard of recently and I like the sound of the name and apparently it's hard.

I stopped doing the clan pharmaceutical about a month and a half ago, and suddenly almost all of my care for pvp stuff dried up!  Totally black and white.  I never get the itch to hunch my shoulders and throw my hat in anymore.  The last few times I tried to play hawken totally sober, I felt like a donkey with a helmet on that got pissed off REALLY EASILY because it felt like the lightning was gone from my fingers and I couldn't get my brain to the thoughtless place of success anymore.  I also discovered, through TPG, that I really just don't give one eighth of a fudge about competitive anythings and I have a tough time dealing with the fact that I'd need to treat the thing I do to relax like a job to win, and even prioritizing winning runs counter to how I like to play; for me, having fun is the main goal with winning being a happy consequence of how well I do when I'm having a good time, not the other way around, and this is a lot easier with no team to be a responsible part of.  Being confronted by the opposite mindset is personally discouraging, which I should really have expected from a competitive scenario.  I might not be playing to win, but losing often ain't fun either.  Apex casual 4 life.

Also, it has helped me realize that I am at a point in my life where if I don't just keep blowing off "steam" and distracting myself about some very very ominous job problems, I will be stuck in my current career for a lifetime of being a smart person that is treated like a fuzzy bunny by idiots until the idiots die and I am left helpless because they'd rather make me feel stupid than teach me enough to manage things on my own, so I am KNUCKLING DOWN and NOSING GRINDSTONES and IDIOMING OUT and generally using my drastically increased self control, self esteem, clarity, and unhappiness with my life's direction to feel threatened enough to make actual change.  DEGREE OR BUST, DAMMIT

I'll still probably come back here immediately once someone sounds the trumpet of new content because this game still has my favorite art assets, TTK, general combat feeling, and the only FPS community I've run into that isn't 99% reprehensible bathroom smells; even the members I don't like are decent people I don't get along with by virtue of just being different kinds of humans.

Not like I'm not on steam or anything; that's still my go-to chat client.  I also look forward to giving a fuzzy bunny about deathmatch on sundays again; since I assume I will both have money and be in a position to purchase a private server, SSSDM will finally coalesce into its SSJ4GTXXX form that I have envisioned all along, and I still look forward to this eventuality.

Until then, later nerds!

I have about 2 weeks to learn Python after exams, so I kind of sympathize.

If you aren't yet using it, grab Notepad++. You can configure it to recognize various languages and catch dumb errors like missing brackets and semi-colons. It's also got a built-in FTP client so if you actually ever want to USE any of this fuzzy bunny irl, that'll be useful for the kind of freelance work you seem to do.

Comic, you know I love you.

I'm pretty sure Steam shows me as perpetually online because it's an app on my phone, but you know, if it says I'm offline, it's still on my phone, so I can still respond and stuff.

Actually I don't think we've talked about this specifically before, but one of the biggest killers of productivity for me has been, is, and probably always will be just being stupidly happy. Like, what reason is there to change what you're doing if you can distract yourself with something else and trigger a release of endorphin just as substantial as whatever change you envision?

It's probably not identical to your situation, but I definitely appreciate the willpower it takes to just fuzzy bunnyng do something when you could be perfectly happy indefinitely doing something else.

Currently using Visual Studios Community 2015. Don't know enough to try other things. I'm assuming Notepad++ is an IDE of some sort. Currently the tutorial I'm running through is based in Visual Studios, so I learn hotkeys and stuff faster. I'm not sure, but it doesn't seem like people change their IDE after they get comfortable with it.

Also the freelance work I do is done by other people. I'm literally just a face and a reason to bump up the price.

I for one haven't been super involved this term simply because it's my first term in a new major and I want to make sure I get my feet on the ground. That, and I was pretty burnt out after TPG and just needed a break. Similar to what camic said, I found myself getting frustrated too easily when playing sober. Lately though I've been itching to play more Hawken again, can't wait to have some fun times with the game over winter break (assuming I can tear myself away from Fallout haha)

I agree with you though Tickle, this community is fantastic, and I don't want to see it fade. I never got into gaming much before college, but from what I've seen over my year and a half with Hawken (is that really all it's been?!) this community is better than most.

Have fun learning c++ Tickle! It's a lot of fun even if it is just "a shiny pair of nunchucks" as Elite put it

What else is new with me? I've been working a new job in the campus library since ~mid-september and loving it. It's IT type stuff at our computer help desk, but it's cool because this is the first job I've had where I could see myself doing something similar after (someday) graduating. It's technically my senior year but I won't be finished for probably another year after this.

I think a lot of the community is just waiting for new content, which sucks but I don't really blame anyone for that.

By the way, I finally have a Sunday off work this week! Idk if SSSDM has been happening much lately, but I'm gonna need a study break on Sunday and I'd love to get some good old deathmatch going. I'd be happy set up the Trentik server for it, hopefully some of you can swing by for a few matches! It would be nice to see some familiar pilots out there.

Crash & burn!

Notepad++ looks a lot like regular notepad, so it's simple and easy to use in that regard, but it has a lot more IDE functionality.

It's a fancy-ass text editor. You have to do more work than in an IDE but at the same time it makes you more aware of what exactly it is you're editing. I won't go so far as some coders and call IDEs a crutch, but for learning, a basic text editor is better.

At first that was because I was just good at it, but then I figured it was easier to just find a time when the teacher wasn't at his desk, print off his solutions, give them a couple formatting tweaks, sell them to my classmates, and play video games the rest of the period.

I kinda feel the same way but not as black and white. On one side I feel more clear and confident but can get spooked easy by plans going sour. On the other side I play more risky and get creative but can get distracted if I go too far. In other words, it's easy to get work done when you're dry but if you're in the jacuzzi it's splash or be splashed.

To echo on others, HAWKEN has a special place on my hard drive and in my heart.

Pubstomping is a whole different strategic discussion, however, and usually just becomes an exploration of the ethics of dumpstering randos.

Well, does it compile, link, and display your program?

Can you run multiple files in a program with it?

If it does do the above, does it have its own copy of standard libraries like <iostream> and <cmath>?

I'm open to something new, especially something that requires a deeper knowledge of the language, after all one of the reasons I'm starting with C++ (other than already having some fundamental knowledge in it) is that "it runs close to the machine" and I honestly can't think of a way to say it other than that - which is a quote. I think learning stuff at that level is necessary when learning higher, high level languages.

Sorry for editing this literally five times since you probably last saw it and are now replying to it.

Suck it.

Apparently there's an built-in extension for compiling so yes, it will do those things, but largely its just a really robust text editor.

Anyone reading who knows C++:

This is part of the test thing:

int wrongfuzzy bunnyer()
{
     std::cout << "WRONG, fuzzy bunnyER! \n";
     return 0;
}

I would like this function to call the function that called it after it runs - it is called by multiple functions. As long as I've got you here, would anyone know how to do that?
